The first time I heard the Potter going home to Aus story it struck me as a mutual face-saving exercise as Saints weren't on top form at the time. There was a dramatic upturn almost straight after. So I take his homesickness with a pinch of salt.

Peter Hood said he "hoped" to be making an announcement before the end of June. That isn't even close to being an unequivocal promise, it's a conditional at best, with other caveats thrown in, and given that neither he nor anyone else is in total control of events (the naming of a coach obviously involves several people, each with their own agendas) it was a wise move.

If you put yourself up as chairman I suppose you automatically go in the firing line, but it would be better if the criticisms were based on what he actually said, and not on what some people think he said.

If you do get Potter, I'd be interested to know why he didn't go home after all. Unless we didn't offer him an option?

That's exactly what it is from the way I was told. Kind of a "you won't be here next year, but if you want to tell the press it's your decision, feel free" situation. Or so I was told anyway, it's obviously not concrete fact.

If Potter really was aiming toward becoming an NRL coach eventually surely that's a good thing? You want people with drive and ambition. If he took the Bulls job it'd be in his interest to do well at it if he's to be a credible candidate in future.

We are aware of his match comments, which seek to ignore some of the no nowt, press pack who persist in asking dim questions akin to "so close yet so far Brian", "that defeat must be really disappointing", "injuries must have hurt you". That he is so patient is more of a surprise. The game needs personalities not subservient t1ts.

I think the press are scared to ask McDermott anything more "challenging".

I can only deduce that we are waiting until after the Quins game to announce McDermott - in case announcing before makes that game a little awkward.

Im not sure thats the case although I can see the logic. [iIf [/iit is McDermott we also need to bear in mind he is contracted next season at Quins, so any announcement will, I guess, have to meet with the approval of his current employers in line with whatever compensation is owed. So any announcement timing probably isn't just up to us.

Thing is we have to make it look like new coach is making the decisions re signings so we cant announce them before we announce the coach. Langley was specifically mentioned as being close to re-signing when we announced sykes.

It could all be rumours, but if you add up what sources we have, and take into account the most credible one (The T&A) I reckon a decision has been reached (or is very, very near).

Whatever decision the club has reached counts for nothing until the leading candidate makes the same decision. Remember that as soon as the club makes an offer, the balance of power swings almost entirely to the candidate.

And you do NOT tell the runners-up that they are out until your chosen one has accepted and references etc all come in OK.

So IF...BIG IF...Mac has been told he is out and IF...BIG IF...it was between him and Potter, then logically you would assume Potter has been offered the job and has accepted it.

Professional sportsmen always seem to leave a gap, just in case don't they?. Seems pretty clear he has not been offered anything as we stand but was in for the job and he is expecting someone else to get it, but my reading of the interview was if that other someone (Potter?) does pull out or that deal collapses he's not saying never.

On another side note thats a pretty good rugby league show, I went to listen just for the BM clip and ended up listening to a fair bit of it, there seems to be some good developments in the grass roots down there, just a shame thats not yet resulting in bigger crowds for quins.
