Except the couple of older-timers behind me then pointed out something I had seemingly missed, which was that apparently at least one of our players had dragged the guy over the line (I'll take their word for it cos it didn't register at the time). And their understanding was that it was the dragging that led to the penalty cos that's what Rot Hall are trying to stamp out. In which case, on that occasion (although I doubt that many others) I may have used some inappropriate adjectivetry on the official...
Comments?'"
Pushing/dragging..........if the momentum doesn't stop in my opinion it shouldn't matter.
I don't think a team should be punished for putting in effort.
Its like the rules surrounding quick taps from penalties and if a kick to the in goal goes dead and a player gets to the ball to the 20 quickly and wants to tap it quickly. If a team is sharp and uses their initiative to make that play so quickly, why should they be punished? Its the defending teams fault for not being sharp enough to get back and set their line quick enough.
Those sort of decisions spoil the entertainment of a game.

| I thought it was a solid but unspectacular performance. The lack of tries is a concern though against what was a pretty sorry Harlequins outfit. I think with some better support play we should have got a couple more scores on the board.
I thought Silverwood had a poor game in general and whilst I type I am watching Ganson referee the Wigan v Leeds match. It seems like the two ref's are playing to different rules regarding what they allow at the PTB. So far in the first 18 mins Ganson has given around 5/6 penalties for holding down or markers not square. The lack of consistency from the officials must be a nightmare for the coaches.
This dragging rule is a bit of farce IMO. Unless the player is on the floor I feel the defenders should be able to pretty much do as they like whilst the player is upright. We should be rewarding good defence which is far too often penalised nowadays. In general play the ref's seem happy to allow some dragging so why a penalty as soon as it's near a line?
Kearney was superb at FB and seemed to enjoy the little bit of extra freedom and space he had. It's a shame we do not have another classy player who can go into 6 because Kearney could be our Brett Hodgson from the back.
We need to improve our attack if we are to get a result at Leeds next week. I wondered after the game if at some point we'll absolutely stuff somebody after a bit of a points draught! Let's hope it's next week!

| I thought Kopzcak stood up well after Lynch went off, his best performance of the season yet.

You so saw something I didn't see then. The guy is decidedly average at best and is there to make up the numbers. If we are looking to be the tops in super league then Koppy shouldn't be in the team!

| Plenty to be happy about in there. Some great attack (and defence) on show.
A game, dare I say, we'd have probably lost last year.
As stated, the pressure conversion in to points isn't quite happening just yet. I'm hoping it's just down to the players needing to click / gel.
Other factors for consideration:
1. Poor weather
2. Heavy Pitch
3. A workman like opposition (they always have caused us problems. I even seem to remember beating by the same scoreline at the height of our success, circa 1999?)
4. The stomach bug - the players will certainly have not been reading "tank full" on the fuel front, even a week on. Was this why Halley wasn't in the 17?
Lastly, another Silverwood issue - the obstruction. We got pinged twice (or was it 3 times) in the first half, for just running behind the man, IMO there was no real obstruction. He then forgot about it for the rest of the game and let worse go!??

| My team for next week would be:
Kearney
Sheriffe
Platt
Nero
Halley
Sykes
Orford
Lynch
L'Estrange
Scruton
Langley
Whitehead
Menzies
Godwin
Hall
Kopzcak
Donaldson
Although he may decide to leave Hallay out or shift Kearney back to 6.

Have to agree, he is slow, looks unfit and is generally a plodder. It's a shame because he showed some potential at first but he isn't getting any better and offers nothing from the bench.
Average performance tonight and if we don't improve it's going to be a long season. As for Silverwood I don't think he was as bad as a few are making out, there was a couple of dubious decisions but on the whole I thought he was ok.

| I think Koppy is very ordinary to be honest. I wouldn't be in any great rush to give him a new contract after it ends this year unless he is willing to stay for a squad player salary. I think we could do with shedding a few plodders like Worrincy and Koppy to free up some cash though.

I think you're right. He's never going to be a world beater, but he's good enough for 4th prop. If he'll stay for a cheap enough wage, sign him up, if not, let him go.
Worrincy shouldn't be anywhere near a new contract.

| I think you have the best chance of beating Leeds in years, was at the DW tonight and they were solid but nothing spectacular

| like others have said not a vintage performance but solid and workmanlike with the points in the bag. would have been a loss last year imo. scoreline last night could have been very different but for a couple of dubious penalties for crossing, langley spilling ball with line begging and whatever silerwood decided to disallow l'estranges try for. quins first try came from a blatant forward pass and should never have stood. Something I've been telling gledhill for years is you've got to win despite the ref and last night thats just what we did.
bring on leeds

| Agree with most comments already posted.
Not a vintage Bulls performance but 2 points is 2 points.
And, it might not be he worse thing in the world to have a below par performance before the derby, it gives them something to iron out in training where a big thumping victory can bread a picture that everything is ok.
Bring on next week
