Great curry! Highly recommend

So some guy asks fans on the Bradford forum where to go and you get some assholes saying "Don't go, go to Leeds". What a set of losers! Why are these people even on here? Even if you can't find anything to suit your delicate tastes, why tell someone who specifically said they are stopping here, about a city in which they are not, er, stopping? Morons.

As the OP is presumably just after a decent place to eat and a decent place or two to drink, Bradford contains a fine choice of both.

This would include CAMRA's Bradford pub of the year, The Sparrow, in North Parade, which is not to be missed. However, two other places to call into are the Fighting Cock, a regular award winning real-ale old style boozer in Preston Street, and the New Beehive on Westgate, one of the few remaining gaslit pubs around.

Next door to the New Beehive is the best formica-table no-nonsense curry house in Bradford, the Westgate. Same building as the posh curry house, but down the side, and open late.

Between them, they should do you just fine.

Supporting the Bulls does not mean that you have to be a supporter of the City of Bradford. People are also entitled to express their views when asked a question.

I'd suggest giving Fanny's Ale House in Saltaire a go. It's open late on the weekend and it's a short walk up from the Aagrah which is a really good curry house.

You can get a table alright at the Westgate. Only been once. Toilets are positively third world. Grub was alright. There's the Sheesh Mahal next door if you don't like the look of Westgate, but I've never been there.

The Sparrow (best bar in Bradford IMO) isn't far from Beehive.

Another vote for the Westgate and Beehive.

The Beehive is ace. The corridor to the toilets has the look and feel of a Soviet psychiatric ward but, other than the customers, nothing else about it gives off that vibe. The Westgate is the best of the old school curry houses still left in the centre. It's quite small and you might wait for a table at a busy time but I wouldn't bother booking. Just stand outside and have a conversation with the people upstairs in the taxi office. This will likely happen to you anyway so make a feature of it.

Aye, couldn't work that out at first from the photos then realised it's had an extension and a major refit by the looks.
Between the Westgate, Sheesh, Beehive and Sparrow, I'm sure we'll make do.

I would reccomend premier inn as well for centre that has recently been done resonable price and rooms are ok.

Pubs Fighting cock, sparrow, and fannys if you want ale but all three have a great selection of continental beers/lagers bottled and on draught . I would not go to Beehive unless there was no other choice, not the cleanest the rooms are let to DSS customers that are barred from other places and will not be accepted by housing associations. If you like Ale It is not kept well and I stopped drinking there when it was warm and off. IT's old charm was that id had ale and was open late drank in there til 3-4 a few times but not really somwhere i would advise.

As for a curry - there is sweet centre that has an off putting area but food is good, International is good and my personal favourite. Omar Khans and Akbars are licensed but the latter needs to be booked (slightly out of town but very popular.) Like aagrah but again a little out of centre but can go to fannys, andpubs around saltaire.

Look at all these tourist dollars the Bulls are bringing into Bradford.

For a Beer Fest look no further than the Sparrow. Best pub for many a mile, and believe me I've tried most of them

They do some snack food, but they will happily point you in the direction of other fulsome eating places.
One just round the corner is Nawaab. A bit pretentiously posh but decent enough and only a few staggering steps away.

I sort of knew that the Hull guys had funny colored phone boxes but was not aware they had their own currency.

Just checked Travelex and you are spot on.

I've only been in the Sparrow once but would recommend it. It's a cafe bar rather than a traditional pub.
Was last in the Beehive early this year after a curry in the Sheesh. It was quiet and the ale was fine. As for the Sheesh It's a good value curry and i'd recommend the fish masala as a starter. The Kashmir just up from the Alhambra is a good cheap and cheerful option.
The fighting cock is an ale lovers paradise but it's not really walking distance from the centre. There's also the Corn Dolly not far from the Cathederal.

It's got to be the Fighting Cock. If you dernt nerr where it is, being a long way from herm, you could curl a taxi on yerr merrbile fern, alternatively turn rart at larts & it's farv hundred yards darn the rerd on the rart. Settle down on a serfer with a nice parnt. I'm not jerkin, it's grert.

Last time I were in the Fighting Cock, they had bread n' dripping on t'bar. Is that a selling point to folk from 'ull? Also - its a short walk from the Punjab Grill - a good bit of curry to be had there.

But aye, Bradford is great for ale and curry. And to rock out at t'Gasworks. Its a bit dead right in the centre and there's some dodgy places (where doesn't have these), but there's no pretentious twunts to be seen! I'll put a shout out for Delius Lived Nextdoor as a lively boozer, near the uni and not far from curry places and the Titus Salt 'spoons.

I mean, come on - people are visiting from 'ull, they're not gonna have high standards

And I didn't even know about the Westgate, bad form. I need to go now.

Also, on a related note, what's the Corn Dolly like these days? I should just walk over myself and check, but whatevz.
