I was thinking this the other day. Would we become a rugby version of Portsmouth FC and be stuck with unwanted players on sky high wages? I wouldn't say we would be left with 20 players but could see 5 or 6 who would either be unwanted by other clubs or would not move on due to their wages.

You must remember that players are on Super League contracts, if a club gets relegated to the Championship then all contracts are null and void and need re-negotiating to achieve the lower salery cap. This is what we at Cas had to achieve following our two relegations from SL.

They do become void if the appropriate clause is inserted into the contracts. However if some dummies forget to put the clause in the contract then the owner will still have to pay SL salaries in the championship.

Why would it be a handful at best. With promotion and relegation likely to be introduced at the end of 2013 they could easily be back in super league after a year away.

Because there's the RFL's option to remove a club's franchise. Therefore I'd imagine that all SL players contracts have a nullification clause should that happen.

If not, then the RFL would have to offer dispensation to the club or would be in a position to force a club to break the RFL's own rules. Which would likely mean an end to the salary cap all together as it IS a restrictment of trade and only allowed to exist due to a gentlemen's agreement between all clubs. Which would mean SL becomes even more lop sided as the clubs with the rich owners throw money at all the best players leaving the scraps for the rest of the league and we end up in a situation like we had in the 80's where only 1 club wins anything.

It implies that Guilfoyle doesn't know what he's talking about, or else is throwing out another perceived obstacle for a non-preferred bidder to become interested in the club.

Doesn't mean the club put one in peoples contracts, after all we achieved a b license in the last round, what was to make them think they'd ever be in a position of being relegated.

Well it's in my brothers contract in the academy so it's pretty safe to say it will be through all squads.

The same can be said for a few first grade players who I am personal friends with.
