Quote: Bulliac "Whilst [sort of] agreeing with that, I always think the T&A , and by that I really mean the reporter, always seem to have a very 'cosy' [some may say, too cosy..and in the past certainly have said that] relationship with the club. Whilst I can see the obvious reasons why both the paper and the club would like this, I'm far from certain it's the correct relationship a newspaper should have with the 'businesses' it covers.
They could, for instance, be asking when the squad list is going to be announced and pushing on the membership numbers etc after all, there is a fair bit of pre-season activity. I'm not suggesting any kind of 'investigative journalism' mode would be appropriate, but they could maybe just enquire a little bit rather than just printing directly from the Bulls' website'"
While I see where you're coming from, I think there's a certain balance they'll need to try and get. When there's a story big enough that needs to be reported, it'll get reported regardless of how unpopular it makes them with the club (see the Francis Cummins taking the club to court story a few months ago, which seemed to break in the T&A). When it's smaller things like you've mentioned, it's not worth them annoying the club over it if they've already asked and not been given a definitive answer. In those cases especially, that news will come out eventually anyway, so it doesn't matter if it's now or in a week or two.
