SAINTS have named their 19-man squad for Sunday's First Utility Super League Round Thirteen match at Castleford Tigers.
Dominque Peyroux has been recalled following injury alongside Jordan Turner.
Keiron Cunningham will select his 17 from:
1. Jonny Lomax, 3. Jordan Turner, 4. Mark Percival, 7. Luke Walsh, 8. Alex Walmsley, 9. James Roby, 10. Kyle Amor, 11. Atelea Vea, 12. Jon Wilkin, 13. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 14. Lama Tasi, 15. Greg Richards, 18. Dominque Peyroux, 19. Theo Fages, 20. Joe Greenwood, 21. Matty Dawson, 22. Jack Owens, 23. Shannon McDonnell, 28. Morgan Knowles.
Turner back in the squad, will he get a run out wide on the wing. In a way Turner is the best option for a back on the bench at the moment as he can play in the pack for a short spell and provide cover across the whole back line.
Not excelling at anything at the moment, but competent cover on the bench.
Peyroux back too. Seems to have had some harsh press from the fans in the last month or two. Not sure why as whilst he is far from blistering he has seemed more than capable at centre.

| Lomax
Owens Percival Peyroux SMD
Fages Walsh
Amor Roby Tasi
Greenwood LMS
Wilkin
Knowles Vea Richards Walmsley
Owens and SMD will be asked to perform the same role again to protect Lomax. The only doubt is Dawson v Peyroux v Turner for the second centre position. All have their pros and cons, but I think Peyroux is worth his start here I think

| Same team that Magic Superbeetle has stated. Only swap I can see is Walmsley starting and Amor on the bench.

Don't think I would play Owens, prefer Dawson, Turner and Owens in that order for the wing spot

| I would not play owens.
I think he needs time out.
I do believe in the rotation of the forwards, but generally for the backs I think you earn the shirt until you lose it.
For me Owens has not earned the shirt, he got it through injury and he has not shown enough to deny another player the opportunity.
I thought Dawson went off injured last week, so if he is 100% then maybe him over Peyroux as he has earned a shirt.

| I think we can be sure the back 3 is Owens, McDonnell and Lomax. They'll continue as they did last week with Owens and McDonnell sweeping to full back in defence.

As I said, we used quite a complicated set up with Owens and SMD to give Lomax as easy a time as possible. The difference between Dawson and Owens isn't sufficient to risk that system failing and exposing Lomax - Swift is due back soon and that should be in time for Lomax to take more on.
I suspect Dawson is okay because he's been named in the 19, but I just think Peyroux could offer us more.

| Well last night was a decent set of results for Saints. A win on Sunday puts us back in the mix

| We've got to start with big Alex. He's in awful form since coming off the bench most weeks. Imo he's a starting prop.

I think he needs a week off more than a starting shirt.

We are now in may. I'm sure he'd be match fit by now. I don't think he's happy at the moment.

Doesn't sound like it? (Sketchy source I know!) www.dailystar.co.uk/rugby-league ... -St-Helens
Fitness is a major problem at the moment, if Thompson is fit, a few weeks off could be the solution for a mini pre season on his own

| I'm sure being fit is likely.
(I'm not a training expert)
But I'd have thought you build up muscle mass in preseason etc which can be caught up during the season.
I recall when I used to go to friendlies that the players always looked bigger due to lots of weight training in pre season.
Players who miss pre season due to injury or internationals do tend to struggle more the following season, but maybe that's just my mind fooling me.

It's very very difficult to gain mass and strength during the season, because you can't really train as hard with the weights if your first 1-2 days of the week are recovering for a game and then you can't do much towards the end of the week because of the game coming up.
There's also a study that has come out recently on Super League players ( www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27075963) which shows for every additional 10 pre-season sessions participated in, the chance of injury is 17% lower. Missing a pre-season can be huge for a player.
