| Made a very impressive debut for Batley today, scoring a hat-trick (albeit against amateur opposition).
My initial assessment is that he's a physically strong, quick-thinking lad who has obvious talent. Are many of you expecting him to make the step up into your first team in the next few years?

You tell us
He seems a decent enough lad whenever I've seen him (all be it limited) iirc were not really sure what his best position is, did he play 9 or 13 today? I think we have relatively high hopes for him but that's true for quite a few at the moment!

I would hope he is being groomed as Roby's understudy. At 5'10" and 15st he is an ideal build for Dummy Half. Seems a good prospect. A season on loan will make or break him.

| I have a suspicion Roby's replacement might well be Lomax (if he gets through this injury relatively unscathed).
People are talking about him losing pace since the last knock. I don't think that's strictly true because Lomax was never quick in the first place.
When Johnny first cemented his place in the team it was primarily because of two extremely valuable attributes - acceleration and lateral agility. Even during his debut season he was regularly hauled down after lengthy breaks because his foot speed wasn't particularly great. But over the first twenty yards there were few who could lay a hand on him.
Since the injury he appears very heavy-footed - particularly changing direction. I fear like Tommy Martyn, whose main attacking weapon in his early twenties was an outrageous step off either foot, he has lost a certain degree of joint flexibility which might curtail his career at full back. Martyn could never perform anything like the kind of sideways shift by the age of 25/26.
From the outset I always figured Lomax would make a good hooker. He possesses all the attributes necessary. Whether after this injury he still has the goods we won't know for some time. But I doubt we'll see him as the last line of defence very often in the future.

Some sound logic there and would make sense if there are any plans to recruit a new outside back (SKD being mentioned). The only attribute I would suggest may be missing for him to play 9 would be durability.

It is an issue. That cohort of kids turned out to be a relatively fragile bunch. But injuries are pot luck. And it is possible to suffer a succession of serious injuries and come out of it the other side. Martyn is the most obvious example. Although, deities do possess special powers.
