Morning all, seeking some advice. Usually we drive over from Leeds, but we're doing it by train tonight. Are there any decent ale houses between St Helens Junction and Langtree Park, or is the best bet to head into the town centre as soon as? Looking for a few nice (non-Wetherspoons) ales pre-match.

It's not really en route but the Turks Head in Cooper Street is probably the best bet for a good selection of well kept real ales. Once you're there a taxi to the ground will be about a fiver or less. They have 8-10 real ales, some craft beers and a good selection of continental lagers and wheat beers. I'm not familiar with St Helens town centre any more but The Phoenix is a decent real ale pub, and about 10 mins walk from the ground.

Best bet is to go into town. It will be busy and it's cheap wherever you go. There's pubs in between but if you don't know where you're going it's best to stick to town

I'd say you're best off heading to the George. Decent pint and should be busy.

A new pub is being built in between but I don't think that's open yet. It's a chain pub tho.

If the team is what I've been told, we will struggle to score or even get any kind of field position tonight but our defence will be strong.

Great little boozer in Sutton The Little pig is a bout a five min walk from the station then just a couple of quid in a cab to the game.

The Junction across the road is ok for a quick one but has its moments.

This is some crazy metaphor for beer question.

My interpretation. The team of beers is going to be very good that we are drinking tonight. So good that after drinking, your going to have a very difficult time scoring with someone. In fact we will be so worse for ware that even getting close to pulling will be a struggle. However, no matter how blind drunk we are, our defence against mingers will be strong all night.
