Salford RLFC Folly ARLFC Good john wilky last looked out on the pitch at salford. when the snow lay round about deep and crisp and even brightly played the lads that night though the frost was cruelllll when poor swinton scored a try we had 94urrrrrrrrrr:7891.jpg

Not sure about the 2 year contract, but another step in the right direction for us I feel. A definite improvement on the likes of Ryan Boyle, Adam Neal and company. He impresses me everytime I watch him, what's he been like on the whole for you lads this season?

Honestly, a shadow of his former self. He's looked slower and more lethargic than I've ever seen him and I think the time is right for him to move on.

Having said that, you're still getting a good player. He was a top player in SL in his prime and even though he's faded slightly he still has a lot to offer. A definite improvement on what you have now.

He's also still capable of pulling out absolutely ridiculous offloads that make you wonder how he's done it.

He's been a good player for us, sad to see him leave. Another deal would have been a mistake though. Like with Meli, we're probably losing our best player in his position here, but it's also probably the right time to move on.

His best feature is the way his arms become telescopic when he gets within a couple of yards of the line

Let me be the first to say - thanks for the memories Tony at times you've been immense.

Good luck at Salford - accept against us!

On his day, he's immense and can do amazing stuff.
His big games are fewer and farther between these days, but as we've touched on, a poor performance from TP is better than half the props in the league on a good day.

He's slowing physically, he played well in the Wigan game, but you can see him looking for soft contact when he carries the ball, before using his strength to drive for yards in the tackle.

A very, very good signing for us, but its OK to move on.

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill):d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_40218.jpg

I think one year would have been more appropriate for both parties but he still has something left in him and Salford do need experience, something he definitely has. A new club may refresh him a bit and push him to make more effort. I think he may have become a little too comfortable at Saints, like a few of our older players have.

Signings like Morley, TP and Meli are simply transitional. Once you have built up a team capable of competing (and a team with these players in will be capable of that) then the team will look more attractive to other players and the dynamic will work from there.

The problem with signing a team of old timers is the risk they will get knocks. When your older you take longer to recover , at Dire they can afford to rest their old codgers to keep them fresh I'm not sure Salford will have that luxury.

Still will be interesting to see how they go next season.

I'd MAYBE have given him another season, but he's been a great player for us over the 5 years.

TP has been one of the best overseas signings that the club has made in the SL era. Along with Meli, they have both proven to be fantastic pieces of recruitment by the club and them not being at Saints will be strange!

Salford are doing things right though. They have to build a competitive team that is achievable to put together. Older players are probably easier to recruit as they are looking for their last big contract and, from Salford's perspective, they can build a certain mentality into the team, which they obviously lack atm.

Hopefully they are putting things together in terms of their youth system.

Totally agree. We were never going to attract top quality younger players at this stage unless we paid them a small fortune which by all accounts we will be doing with Junior and Chase.Trouble is you can only do that so many times with the cap restrictions.
The likes of TP and Meli are fantastic signings for us.Off course they are not the players they once were but are still head and shoulders better than what we have got before and will no doubt go very well for us.Both been fantastic servants for you guys but the time is right for both them and the club to move on.
