| The young chap played half back for Hornets at Cheltenham today. I have heard he did really well looked confident and spun out a great deal of good ball behind a commanding pack. Whilst I fully understand this is a pretty basic standard it is after all semi pro and against open age guys. Perhaps he is being monitored to have a run out, perhaps against the Bulls

| I suspect Meli would have looked a world beater at 7 playing open age guy's but he's just getting back from injury isnt he so all game time will be good for him.
Would be nice to see a real scrum half given a go at some point this year

| After watching the Warrington debacle in the halves, and reading Yates did very well again then surely now is the time to see what he can offer us. It cannot be anything worse than Wilkin and Ashe he's a natural 7 at the end of the day!

Why not swift ? Swift played 6 for England and saints thru the youth as well. He's more experienced at this level than Yates.

| Might as well give Swift and Yates a go, as people say, can't be as bad as Ashe and Wilkin.

| I was talking about playing 7 and the topic was about Yates that was all and he is the only natural 7 we have at the club. Personally I would go Yates over Swift from games I've seen because if the club had Swift in their plans as a Half Back surely he would have had a go by now, everybody else has. I do rate him but I see his future as a winger that's my opinion anyway. There has been big noises about Yates for some time now so i just feel it is the right time to see what he has got.

When did Swift play at 6 for England?
The last England academy halfback pairings have been Sam Powell and Gareth O'Brien followed by George Williams and Ryan Hampshire.

| Swift played for England community lions, rather than England academy. He only came to the club as an 18 year old.

That would explain why I hadn't seen him at 6. He hasn't played there in the academy games v Wigan that I have watched.

Interesting to note that Yates played at stand off yesterday. He wasn't playing 7. Maybe Nathan Brown asked Rochdale to play him at 6 to see how he goes. He could be thinking of playing him along side Wilkin.
Rochdale fans seem to agree that he played well. One commenting that he has got a wonderful pair of hands and sent some delightful passes out. Reading the match report it seems that his support play was good. Also, from what I have seen in the past, his short kicking game is very good.
Now I know he wasn't playing against the best opposition, but at the end of the day, he is a better attacking player than Ashe. Give him a go.
Looking back now, if he hadn't been injured, he would probably have played in the game against Salford instead of Charnock.

| I believe he would have played the Salford game too barring injury as I'm sure he's ahead of Charnock in the pecking order. We don't know how he will go at super league level yet but I just think now is the right time to blood him. He is small and he will get singled out in defence but I've seen enough and heard enough to believe he can bring something we are currently missing in attack and I also think his creativity could bring out the best of Lomax running from deep when he returns at full back.
