When walking out of Langtree Park last week feeling very very disappointed and banging on about how rubbish our halfbacks are, then suddenly I just thought, I'd pick Jon wilkin in the halves. He's not the greatest pair of hands or rugby brain but he'd get involved and try to organise us.

Friday night, I got my weekly txt message of the team for Saturday and thier he was playing in the halves. Had Brown over heard me say it ? icon_wink.gif

I would now give wilkin a extended run in the halves, he's one if our senior players and will get involved. No doubt he will have many stinkers on the way but at least he will try. Lee Gaskell and lomax don't get involved, we don't see them for large spells of the game, we've even had TP and Laffranchi going in a first receiver against hudds.

Also, playing Wilkin in the halves allows us to bring a better runner with the ball into the pack. The back three of sia, Manu and Flash is a stronger pack.

That's my opinion on it and obviously Brown is thinking down the same lines.

He was playing scrum half most of the time last week as well.

I agree, as he's a waste of a shirt as a running back rower, the modern game has no room for one who makes so little yardage.

However, what he will be like at 7 against better teams with a competitive pack remains to be seen.

Exactly but he can't be any worse than what we've had for past few seasons.

Why not give him a crack , it work for Sinfield at Leeds and allowed them to go for more power in the pack and it's about time he stepped upto the plate as a senior player and started to provide some leadership - it's not like he's short of a few words

Jon Wilkin allways seems to have the odd good game in the halves but I dont think he could keep that consistancy of peformance week in week out..

To be fair, he hasnt had that many games in the halves, but the ones he has had have been far better than Hohaia, Lomax, Gaskell and co have managed between them. How many man of the match performances have they had? Maybe he isn't another Sean Long, or Bobbie Goulding, but he is probably the best we have got.

Maybe St Pete's oracle will foresee that Wilkin stays at 7, Lomax at 1, and Wellens, when fit, will play at 13?

Wellens may even play at centre, and tighten up our left side.
