With effect from Friday February 10, St.Helens Council have introduced a £1 charge on the following car parks for Saints Home Matches:
Tontine Car Park
Chalon Way Car Park
The Old Tesco Car Park Link Way.
The £1 fee is payable on entry, and the Council have asked if people intending to use these car parks can have the correct amount available to avoid congestion.

I thought that the town centre car parks were free in the evenings previously ?????????

| There's still Birchley Street that's free and at only £1 a car the council aren't making that much.

17073.jpg But then there breaks a yet more glorious day:
The saints triumphant rise in bright array;
The King of glory passes on his way.
Alleluia! Alleluia!:17073.jpg |

| Surely people can't complain at paying £1 for town centre parking 10 mins walk from the ground?!

| Chalon Way was free after three, not sure on the others named.
I'm not sure that people can really complain about a pound, and unless the club are putting money towards the operation of the car parks on match nights then why should they get any money?

| As I said for the game against Widnes. It made sense for the council to allow that to be free. It was like a free sample once people have parked there for free and if they find it a good service, then charging £1-£2 at a later date will not put too many off.
If they had charged for the friendly, then it would have lead to alot of people trying to find other places. This way they have sampled the service and if they found it good, then £1 will not put anyone off.
I used to park at families and then walk to the game when it was at KR, Widnes had residential areas that where not restricted. This is in the town centre so neither of those are an option and at £1 i'll be more than happy to hand over for parking.
Trust me I know parking charges living in Leeds and £1 for the night is nothing.

| A charge was inevitable as it will cost the council to man the car parks. £1 will pay their overtime costs I should think. Hopefully being charged will not encourage people to look for parking spaces on nearby streets as that would not be good for local residents.
