Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg

Linked with Swinton and he could easily do full time Uni whilst playing there tbh and at his age could still develop back to SL standard quite easily.

Fair play to Armstrong not taking some nice cash to get a degree

I thought Ashurst was one of the better youngsters to come through very solid when i've seen him play

Tom is considering a couple of Championship offers, mainly because the degree he's on, won't lend itself to daytime training. The course has a lot more hours than some other degrees, so evening training is the only option.

That article is just brilliant. Providing it's true, and given that it's about Rugby League and has some known factuality about it, It just shows how ridiculously poor our recruitment is.

Who is in charge of squad development at Saints?

On the subject of this British forward we've stated publicly we're looking for, it doesn't sound too good to be honest

If that's true and they haven't identified a signing yet, it's shocking. Especially given how many props of sufficient quality to improve our squad have already moved clubs. Flower, Bryant, O'Hara, Tonks, Hill, Moore, Chan, Dudson, Cahill, Davies. And that's just off the top of my head. All of those players would improve our depth in the front row and be a more than adequate bench player, some would probably make the starting 13.

Yet we're stood looking up at the sky for something to fall out of it?

May as well spend the masses of cap space we must have available on cladding as there won't be any prop forwards falling out of the sky any time soon I wouldn't have thought.

Just read that article and Tom Armstrong is at University already and it isn't Liverpool. Confusing.

It's a rubbish article, Dave Parker special, he's played about 20 games. He'll be at Swinton.

The fact that Ashurst is going to Salford is true. Tom Armstrong IS at Manchester University. He has been training some days at Saints since he started his degree, seeing out the terms of his contract, during the play offs. No-one at Saints could claim to be shocked, because he is basically out of contract. He has played around 20 times for the first team. He had interest from 4 or 5 SL clubs, but had made up his mind to take the degree that he had deferred from last year. He was able to take up the course on the 'old' college fees system of 3 grand a year, rather than the 9 grand that it has been hiked up to, but would have lost out, had he not taken the course this year. SL teams clearly train full time, and he couldn't commit to this, so he will more than likely be playing part time rugby in the Championship next season.

All good. Wish him well.

Perhaps we'll see some of Dan Brotherton or Ian Cross next season?

Brotherton needs a lot of work before he should be considered for first team action.

Being big and fast doesnt make you a RL player. It just makes you an athlete.
If he was thrown into the first team now he would make Kevin Penny look like the consummate professional.

Personally think the likes of Josh Jones and Percival will be getting the nod before Brotherton.

Wont rule him out mind you, just needs probably two more years in the reserves to learn the basics of RL.

Rubbish article but he's got both things right?

The only thing he's got wrong is the uni he's at and the amount of games he's played
