Has anyone recently had UPVC windows fitted and if so would you recommend the installer based on the quality of their work and value for money?

Jones Windows. Bit more expensive but quality far better than the competition in my view. Had no problems with mine at all - no hard sell either.

HTH.

I don't know who to recommend, but I'd suggest you avoid St Helens Windows. Unless you want leaks and very bad service.

sorry cant help with names, however i wouldnt go to a big company, i would look at small local independants mate. the good decent ones will have the same quality as the big boys but at vastly cheaper prices.
ignore the big boys who go on about A rated glass etc. its the law now that all new windows have to be A rated.
white frames are the cheapest, yopu pay a big premium for wood effect or coloured frames.
there is no such thing as BOGOF or free fitting. any one that offers that has increased the prices in the first place.
sometimes its cheaper to go an independant just for the windows and then pay a fitter to fit them.
i know down here its roughly
£120 to fit a door
£80 to £100 for a window(depending on size and ease of getting old one out)
some fitters will give a discount if there are maybe 10 plus doors/windows to fit.

last bit of advice, which im sure you know anyway is to get at least 3 quotes for the windows and the actual fitting. most companies do free measuring and if they then do the job, any mis measures is down to them and they have to replace free of charge. you do your own measuring and down to you if you measure wrong.

ask your neighbours too for recommendations mate.

Ensure you go with a FENSA registered company.

The fensa website below is a really good guide and should ensure you go with a reputable company

www.fensa.co.uk/

Ensure when getting various quotes, that salesmen are offering you comparable products.

Some things to look for.

Energy efficiency rating. "A" rating is best. "C" rating is now the legal minimum they can sell you. Legitimate firms should be able to show you their energy efficiency ratings on various types of Frames and windows. Ensure you clearly specify in writing what you require, so there is no chance of a misunderstanding occurring eg you think your getting A rated windows but the glass company understands you want the cheapest C grade windows.

Some info from the energy saving trust. lets you know the ins and outs of frames and energy efficiency etc

www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Hom ... ng/Glazing

Check what make and type of glass will be used,

www.pilkington.com/Europe/UK+and ... efault.htm

www.planitherm.com/

Check the casement manufacturer (Thats the frame makers) Duraflex and Swish are two major high quality brands.

Look into the security of the doors and windows, eg deadbolts etc.

Check out Testimonials from satisfied customers

Quote: SaintsFan "I've just looked on the website and St Helens Windows is in there. That makes a mockery of the registration! They are terrible. Who wants a front door letting the rain in through the letterbox? Or the wind in at both sides? Or condensation between the glazing layers? And who wants their phone line cut in the act of installation with a refusal to compensate for the cost of reconnection? And then who wants to be yelled at over the phone when these issues are raised? And no-one comes to fix them?'"

If this is your experience then I would recommend taking further action.
