| Is his time up at fullback? I've been his biggest fan in previous seasons, his dedication and commitment has simply never been matched. He was a wonderful player to go along with this so was a true hero.
But as players get older they tend to slow down. Wellens is not a player who can take this because he was already lacking in this department.
Why not play him left centre? He is dangerous there when attacking from fullback and no one would get past that side of the pitch. We would no longer have to worry about Smeli's deficiencies in fielding kicks with Wello around.
It would also allow someone like Lomax to bring some much needed enthusiasm into the game. Even Wheeler could play there. Both Lomax and Wheeler are players who are ready for SL now and who will only suffer from being bit part players.

| I think Wellens is the best option at full back to be honest. He's so reliable under the high ball and in defence, even though he isn't the fastest. As for Wheeler, I think that he would be better at centre where he proved he can make an impact last season.

Considering Potter has given him the No.1 jersey, no, I doubt it.
Lomax isn't ready sadly. Another season to bulk up a bit and learn to take a bomb and he'll be ready to chuck in.

| Surely if he's too slow for fullback, he's too slow for centre.
I'll reserve judgement on him for now, anyway. This is the first proper off-season he's had in a good while, I think the extended break he's having may be doing him the world of good.

| Wello has always been a very good player and Mr Dependable, but last season he made more mistakes than i have ever seen.
He isn't quick enough to play fullback, however, he doesn't have the skills or pace to place in other positions, i.e. centre or in the pack at loose forward.
I think he will have another season, but im not sure if he will be a regular in 2011.

Correct. Wellens should be at Full Back next season without question as there is no safer Full Back in Super League.

| No, not by a long way. For him to lose his space he would need to get injured and for lomax to have an amazing run of games in his place, which is unlikely

| Wello should start the season at fullback as he's the best player in squad that can play fullback.
I'd like to see potter give lomax more game time at fullback if possible to ease him into the postion without throwing him in the deep end.
I don't like the idea of wello playing centre at all! We lack attack outwide as it is so IMO don't think it would give us anything at all.

| Wello should deffo stay at full back for another season, he can "read" the oppositions play quicker than any other full back. If you want someone safe as houses at the back you pick Wello. If you think a full back needs to run the ball back quicker then you pick someone else.

| Still the best British fullback.
However there are a few youngsters who are snapping at his heals.
Ask the question in 2 years and the answer may be yes his time at FB is up
I can see two players possibly competing for FB spot Gaskell and Lomax, though Gaskell may end up at centre.

| I still believe that despite the fact that Wellens is way past his best, he's still probably the best British full-back in the game. Says a lot about the British game really.

| Don't think he is the best british fullback any more but he is solid. He might not be the quickest but he doesn't need to be because he reads play so well. Barring a bad injury he still has a few seasons left, whether with you or elsewhere.

If he's still at 1 at the end of 2 years we've gone wrong somewhere. Mistakes were creeping into his game last year, he may well read a game well, but that only covers so far and it's no longer covering his physical lack of pace like it once did. He doesn't return the ball far enough and he doesn't consistently beat the first man anymore.
He's been an excellent player for us, and may well offer a hell of a lot to young players coming through, but as a top class full back he's finished now.
