| Think it deserves it's own thread, haven't seen much on the issue anywhere really and would like to know the rules on eligibility.
From the lads given a squad number this season, Lomax, Dixon, Foster and Yates are all definitely eligible for U20, and only Dean, Emmitt and Johnson are definitely ineligible. Bostock aswell, if he's still around that is.
The likes of Eastmond (Jul), Wheeler, Armstrong (both Sep), Ellis (Oct), Ashurst (Nov), Frodsham and Magennis (both Dec) are all 20 in this calendar year.
Can anyone confirm the exact ruling as to when a player is over-age for this competition?
From the other thread
Leeds have released Ratu and supposedly Broughton, Hull have released a number of first teamers, not sure how many due to the U20 ruling though. I haven't seen much else in the press about releasing players specifically due to this. Have you got a link?

| We should sign Broughton, he's very quick.
I think you are allowed 3 over age players. You can have as many as you like I think, they just can't play.

He was part of the Leeds team that got their ass handed to them on a plate against our lads so I'd suggest we have options of our own before we approach this loser.

I was being half - flippant.
In fairness we need a genuinely quick winger. Ade was once quick, but since the day he decided to try to become popeye, lost any pace of evasiveness you'd expect of a winger. meli is strong, but I am not sure he has ever had any pace. Problem I have with him is his daft mistakes for which you would expect a few Sullivan - esque belters to square the ledger, but are never really going to get. i have said it once, but Huntey was one of the most underrated backs we had.

Al wasnt under-rated, if anyone thought he was gash then they need their head testing. He was a gem, quality drinker to. You dont get a Gb shirt if your under-rated ask Billy McGinty ! Huntey was a joy, and could whip up the crowd at will to with his celebrations. Oh yesssssss !

| My understanding that as long as they are only turning 20 not 21 in the comming season then elagable. Also that Johnson and Gilcrist from the reserves are being kept on as two of the over age players leaving a spot for a possible first team player to drop down .(Dean, Emitt etc)
At least 4 accademy players are moving up plus a possible few more now to old for that team could be kept on.

I haven't, unfortunately. I just read in the RL press about Hull letting go a number of players and the reason they cited was the abandonment of the reserve league.
I would imagine those players who have been signed to the first grade squad will remain but I assume they won't be playing, except when they are playing for first grade, once they turn 21. But I really don't know as like you I haven't heard or read anything about the new setup.

Because if you are 20 and have not played in the first team yet there is not a huge chance you will make it. The NRL are considering ditching their U20s comp (Toyota up i think) for this very reason.
Guys that are 20+ are to have dual registration with national league sides. This will result in the quality of the national leagues improving and older juniors getting experience against bigger, better, more experienced opponents. I think its a good idea.
The only issue is that this makes the Championship a feeder competition for superleague, but don't tell them this they haven't worked this out yet.

Been going all season that hes signed for Wakefield, now apparently going to Salford, either way dont think he will be a Leeds player next season. Wish we would have kept him as I think he would have been a quality replacement for Scott Donald when he returns to Aus.

I think that guys like Emmitt and Frodsham would be better playing for Widnes or Leigh than the second team. Playing against bigger men is likely to toughen them up more. This will make the jump to Superleague less of a transition.
I do agree with you feelings towards the RFL. As I said before they are bringing in an u20 comp just as the NRL are about to ditch theirs. Its almost as if they want us to be behind the Australians.

Absolutely. Just make sure we can call them back if the "red alert" alarm goes off and we need a prop.

| I believe Leeds did release 7 players or so that they couldnt keep hold of due to the changes in the competitions next year.
