So, after the ref asking the video ref to check if the ball was played correctly and touched with the players foot, are we now to assume that it doesn't matter if you play the ball with your foot! The ref's are just a joke!

play the replay once to the ref on the pitch and let him make the decision there and then, if he can't then B.O.D. or NO TRY.

the problem with that statement me-old saddo is that the refs appear to make different ones up each week ! no bu**er knows the RULES anymore,
the refs are spoiling the game just to please sky tv.

If that try had been ruled out, consistent reffing would have meant that we wouldn't have beaten Wigan the other week as the final play the ball before the try was exactly the same.

The ref asked if the ball touched Phelp's foot who was the dummy half, they were only ever checking for a knock on.
I wouldn't like to see video refs been asked to look at previous play-the-balls tbh, remmeber several years ago when they were poing back 4 plays sometimes.

One thing I've never understood is when you see a player do a KC special and try to bulldoze over from acting half close to the line, the ref and video ref always check if he's grounded it and invariably on the replay you see that all the defenders are standing offside at the play the ball. Why do they never give a penalty for offside to the attack if the player hasn't scored a try?

I "think" the video ref can only judge on what the match referee asks, so if the match referee doesn't ask for offside then the video ref can't give it.

So, if he goes to the screen for say crossing, but there is no crossing so its play on, but he quite clearly drops the ball over the line, then he will award the try?

Thats seems stupid to me.

That's the only thing that is agreed on when this topic is discussed with my friends. Everything else is "I'm not sure". e.g. "How far can he go back?"

We need some definitive clarification and the refs to be consistent.

The debate in our house was whether the pay the ball was the last act of the previous play or the first act of the next play - ie the next play starts when the dummy half touches the ball not when the ball is played by the tackled player?
