The defender should have the right to tackle the kicker, if committed and he take the player out then it's just hard lines on the kicker IMO. The defender should be in his rights to make the tackle.

We can't just stand there and wait for him to kick it.

The " take out wheeler " is utter rubbish. I do beleive and I've experienced myself that teams have gone out to target certain players but IMO that tackle wasn't planned, had no intention to hurt him and wasn't told by any coaching staff at Wigan to do so.

Well, if you want to form an accurate opinion on that kick, you need to watch the replay. I've watched it twice now (not for that tackle; just because I wanted to watch the match back). Hoffman was late, needlessly forceful and he's taken out a great young player who deserved a chance at no.6. Hoffman shoulder charged Wheeler at pace in the shoulder. Surprise, surprise, Wheeler's shoulder is now knackered.

If it was late then why wasn't it penalised? Or for that matter why wasn't it put on report?

Why wasn't the blatent forward pass called as a forward pass? It was still a forward pass even though it wasn't called. Even your coach thought so, and we all saw him think so! Just because our crap touchies/refs don't call something doesn't mean to say it didn't happen. Maybe the RFL will have something to say about it; maybe they won't. Time will tell.

The tackle should not be judged harsh because it was on a young player.It was either late or not,the fact that it was on a youngster should not come into it.

I had more issues with O'loughlins high shots than that tackle.

I agree. However, that fact that it was done on a talented young player who finally had the chance to show us what he had to offer (and it looked very good up to then) has particularly upset me.

I watched it again, and i'd say it was a couple of seconds late and i would also say Hoffman had no intention of charging the kick down, he went for the man. It should have been penalised and he should have had 10 minutes in the bin, IMO.

He couldn't because it was a fair tackle. The reaction of Wilkin himself and all the saints players who watched it are proof of that. Like the Graham on Lima hit, it was a huge hit but completely legal.

Some supporters need to realise this isn't football. They are athletes who take the physicality as part of their job.

There is a distinct difference between physicality and dangerous play. Thankfully, these days, this is recognised and their are rules in place to protect players.

Looking back at it now, i think i may have overreacted a little.

He was quite late on Wheeler but i think it was more the force of the collision than the placing of Hoffman's tackle that hurt Wheeler.

So if Jammer had damaged Lima's shoulder with his collision then that would have been ok?
