The way people make out Briers to be like some sort of Gazza /George Best figure that gets wasted every week, how come he's kept his fitness and form for so long into his career? You don't do what he has done at his age, without being a great pro.
Of course I could be wrong and maybe Briers just looks good because he's carried by a world class side?'"
From what I've been told (which you can take with a pinch of salt if you like, but I've no reason to disbelieve it) he changed his attitude when he realised Smith wasn't going to take any of his crap unlike Cullen.

Lee briers has been a fantastic player and still is, he's certainly not being carried by a world class side because your not one.
Lee Briers is the last of the old style scrum half. He's a player wiry a rugby brain and skill. Scrum halves are not like that anyone.

| Briers may well be the most overrated player in Super League history. Can be great occasionally but so can Jarrod Sammut.
EDIT: Danny Brough is probably more overrated now, but not over the course of fifteen years.

| Smith worked wonders harnessing Briers natural ability.
He could easily be playing NL or have retired by now - especially with the Barrow rumours at the start of Tony Smiths reign.
I always remember sitting in wires reception for a meeting at Halliwell jones - pretty sure it was the day after Hull KR beat them in the cup when they were still in the NL.
Company I worked for did a bit with wire then.
A number of players strolled in late for Cullens extra training session whilst I was waiting. I then had the meeting and on the way out Briers finally strolled in and the receptionist said something like Late again Lee and he chuckled like a naughty schoolboy.
I don't think he is quite up there and in many ways his value to wire is like Tommy Martyns to Saints, but amplified in the current standard of halfbacks in SL and performances at his age its a fantastic swansong.

45465_1384791340.jpg And last but not least, to all those people who wrote this team off.
To all those people who critisized this team...tonight's for you.

| I like Lee Briers, he's one of the few characters in our game. Has been a great servant for the Wire, but it's now time for them to find a quality replacement (and partner for the excellent Richie Myler).

Big clubs that are expected to challenge need players that can step up to the plate in big matches, we had a number of players that could do it in the past, Leeds have 3 or 4 now. IMO had Wire had a big game player instead of him over the last few years they'd have won more.'"
Absolute joke of a post. 2010 Lance Todd Trophy winner.

One game that was a walk over, how long has he been playing? What did he do in the play offs that year when the pressure was on and the games were tighter?

| The Welsh team missed Briers today I thought. Had Briers been playing, there may have been a few more scoring chances for the Welsh (although to be fair they do need a bit more grunt up front).

It certainly wasn't a walkover. Have a look at the bigger picture and think about some of the teams he played in prior to August 2009.

The bigger picture is that he's just not a top line player. He's never been the man to pull you out of a hole, good teams or bad.

| Briers is exactly what we needed last season. He'd have made the difference for us. A kicking game, some composure close to the opposition line and an old head to steer the ship.

Exactly.
He should play for Wales in the World Cup though, would improve them no end going off their showing last week.
