| I have just been listening to Jammer live on Radio Manchester - he is at the evening at the Leigh Sports Village.
He said he wouldn't mind Keiron Purtill and KC as the coaching set up for next season. He said if we disregard K. Purthill then we may lose him altogether as he feels he could go after some of the other vacant coaching positions at other clubs.

Well, Saints want the best man for the job, I assume. If that is Purtill then they will appoint him. It's a risk, though, because he will be even less experienced than Potter. I hope we just go for the best coach, wherever he comes from.

| Purtill is fine for me as long as the players are behind it. Perhaps an experienced old head to guide him would work.
Avram Grant is good at those kind of roles.

| Forget Des Hasler or Ricky Stuart, your getting coaching supremo Peter Sharp. You know the ex Hull FC boss.

You were a mean set up in 2006 and even got to the grand final.
Although I seem to remember people saying that was Sharpe coaching Kear's team. It all went down hill after that.

It's the kind of standard that a non trophy winning Saints side are going to have to get used to.
Anyway I think he's a good appointment for you.
Please McManus please sign Peter sharp up, a 5 year deal would be preferable with no get out clause.

| Peter Sharpe loves his utility players and made the biggest mistake ever making Motu Tony the no1 fullback over Shaun Briscoe.

Briscoe on last nights "red button" after the Sheffield v Keighley game admitted he had "issues" with Clark and consequently moved to Hull K.R.
It was a very good, honest interview.

Only hasler and maybe stuart are worth thinking about but don't know much about taylor to be honest.
Hasler will stay at manley and stuart wouldn't come and we wouldn't have him anyway.

| Not sure about Sharpe. Big split on FC's forum about him as a coach ranging from:
The positive
"He took over Kear's team and got us to the GF. The following year he got us into the top 4 despite playing most of the season with no scrum half and a shed load of injuries. Even in the year he got the sack, his side got to the CC final and put up a decent showing against Saints - once again without any half backs through injury. He's widely respected among players and coaches. The facts don't seem to back up your assertions."
The negative
"Peter Sharp absolutely wrecked the playing side of this club. To this day we are still about the most boring unattractive rugby playing team in SL and thats a legacy of the boring exceedingly average players he brought into the club."
I think the positive quote is far closer to the truth, but would rather a younger NRL coach to be honest.

I thought he looked a good coach when he went to hull, i liked his straight talking interviews as well but i think he had no luck at all with injuries. I wouldn't want him but it wouldn't shock me if did a good job if he did get the job.

to be fair I've heard from several people that in person he is quite a character, with a dry sense of humour. However he absolutely hated media work, and always appeared nervous/irritated or just down right moody on TV and the radio.
as for his coaching ability the jury is out for me.
He took Kear's team, improved the defense and the tactics massively, took us on a 13 game winning run and to our first grand final. He is well respected in the game, and the Hull players had a good relationship with him and were sad to see him leave.
then in 2007 he suffered the massive blow of losing Cooke, which obviously wasn't his fault and was very unexpected. Cooke was the chief play-maker and organizer, and we struggled without him. However despite this blow Sharp still steered us to 4th place in 2007.
Sharp's downfall was mainly not replacing Cooke. We first got Matthew Head on loan, who was good but had suffered so many injuries down the years he barely trained. We then signed the even more injury ravaged Adam Dykes and our attacking play never recovered. Also in 2008 we suffered a horrendous injury crisis, and for several weeks struggled to even name a 18 man squad and by the time he got sacked he looked a beaten man.
he was also guilty of filling the squad with utility players (such as wasting a quota spot on Todd Byrne) but he did also bring in Manu, Tickle etc who have been good signings for us.
So as I say the jury's out, as he had a lot of bad luck, and did bring us some sucess...but at the same time he still hasn't proved his is better than being a good assistant coach.
