Flannery has been a very underrated player by a lot of Saints fans. Manu's missed tackle rate is amongst the highest in Superleague.

Flannery is an honest plodder. Manu is a line-breaking offensive weapon. There's no comparison.

Manu is 32 years of age. A good running forward but very poor defensively. If Saints are stupid enough to give him a three year deal (on reported good money) then more fool them.

Plenty of Saints fans have posted regarding the draw backs of his age and corresponding contract lengths We don't need you pointing it out like you've discovered penicillan.

We needed a huge tackle busting forward and we've got one. His age is a concern but I'll reserve judgement until I see him play (if he has signed for certain of course).

The only thing that bothers me about the signing is we let our best back rower and possibly fastest player go in Gilmour at a younger age, despite the fact it was obvious to every sane person that he still had plenty to offer. The fact our backline was sluggish made it even more frustrating, especially when Brown signed him and he carried on as he had left off at Saints.

Couldn't agree more - it was a terrible decision to not give him a new deal. He'd still be getting a game now and could cover at centre.

Gilmour made 31 busts in the whole of the 2010 season, Manu has made 43 already this year.

Manu is EXACTLY what our pack has been missing and would be a tremendous signing regardless of what Rogues would like to say (p.s. I always appreciated his contributions on here but the last year or so it is just incessant, poorly contrived, bias drivel. Which is actually a real shame as he used to be relatively interesting).

But we already have players who are great defensively, but don't offer much going forward. Manu gives us something different and is an excellent player.

Just to clarify, I wasn't really comparing Gilmour and Manu although they are different kinds of player and Manu is just what we need. My point was that I'm miffed as we've now gone back on our 'age policy' which was ridiculous in the first place, we could have got a good couple of years out of Gilmour and signed Manu had we wanted to. Releasing 30+ year old forwards simply because they are 30+ is nonsensical if their performances are still of a high standard.

Clearly, Brown has convinced McManus of this and I'm very glad he has.

Have any of you seen his pictures? He looks about 17? If he's 32, he must use some damn good moisturiser.

He's only just able to shave and his hair still has that trademark fuzziness that only a teenager has.

I'm not sure he's 32 myself. On his player profile on the Hull site, there's a video of him wearing this years kit and saying he's 28.
