Presumably you can order them on the 8th but they won't be available straight away. So basically you are just ordering them in advance of the result date.

A pre order is an order that is made for delivery at a later date, when the product is released.

An order is for immediate delivery as the product is already released.

No, both of those are orders. Pre-order is just a word invented by marketing types to get you to commit to buying something before it's available. They might call it a pre-order but really it's just an order that sounds more exciting.
