Quote: McClennan "Last night was another example of the increasing intensity in Super League.'"

Can't agree with that mate. Granted, Unfortunately I'm no longer in a position to make my assumptions having watched every game these days, but from what I've seen the matches lost by Saints (and Leeds) this year have been down to poor performances and not due to the improved play and intensity of the opposition.

For me that goes for Super League over all this season. Hate to have a go at our great game but the quality (and exitement) so far this year just hasn't done it for me I'm afraid.

Quote: St pete "not saying we are not fit but we don't seem to be able to pick the pace up when needed but we are defo a slow team.

When team get quick play the balls is when we struggle and end up giving pens away.

Maybe our lack of pace is reason why we not great to watch anymore.

Maybe it's just me that think we are looking tired and very jaded.'"

Your squad is too small, you started the season with 18 senior players (that's including Eastmond) and yes your youngsters have come in and done a good job, Ashurst and Wheeler have been major sucsesses, but if you got alot of injuries then your team would look very depleted. This has happened and you're starting to lose against teams like Wakey and Salford. But it's better to have your rough patch now then play off time.

Quote: Blobbynator "I understand that and maybe we've seen a few teething problems with the ruling this year that will hopefully be resolved next year, but I think the game has gone backwards this year and the slow PTB speed is the main reason IMO.'"

Don't agree. I have been fed up with tag rugby for the past five or so years. Every went on about the likes of Mickey Higham being a good player because he could scoot quick 10 metres - perhaps the most banal and boring aspect to rugby league.

Now the defensive aspect of the game is being given a fair crack, sides are beginning to realise they need a bit more then one man quick ptb's.

I do agree with an earlier post of yours that the game has been poorer this season.

Think your right its a pretty good post mate...we're going through the same stage however IMO that the NRL went through 5 years ago when it became a boreathon....SL is pretty much like that IMO at the moment.....ive never enjoyed watching RL less in 20 years of watching the game this year, yet when you watch a game like last weeks orgin, you can see how great the game is.

The problem with SL at the moment is like the NRL was, teams have tightened up the ruck area meaning that you cant get easy breaks from running acting half previously one of the most used ways of making a break. Hence teams are trying to find new ways to break defences yet the majority of players in SL are currently very bland and void of ideas in this department as they have relied on dummy half running and offloads for so long....Thus the majority of time you only get tries now is when mistakes are made by the opposition, ie/ missed tackle/ dropped ball etc. which makes the game very bland and very boring.

Hopefully we will move to an NRL style of play and follow them further as our game develops in the next few years, where we will see a return to deeper or varied running lines, dummy runners, inventive switches etc. as we used to see in the past as players and coaches will realise they need to up their skill levels and re-discover classic rugby league attacking moves.

What are these classic moves you fondly recall?
