You don't have to say it directly, you can imply or insinuate something, which is clearly what you did. You do this alot, make a comment and then when people disagree you become pedantic and point to the fact you didn't say those exact words.

From the odd couple of stories I have heard about him, he seems like the complete opposite of the persona that he seems to have generated, which is odd really.

He's a lovely lad, tweeted him last year when he said he was bored, he replied, came down and did a kicking session with Brook U16s, gave them his boots and coat, sent his grandad the week after with a training top for the man of the match as he was having a hernia op. Friendly, unassuming, brilliant with the lads.
