One of my pet gripes this. Be it cool / clever / witty / potitical / whatever, no lyrics will ever make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck like the open chords to Pinball Wizard or Satisfaction or Eruption. Music should be felt, not thought.

My only real gripe with Lily Allen is the wierd cockney / chav accent she puts on some of her vocals. This fad seems to have spread to other chavvy vocalists as well.

If Courteeners weren't from Manchester, I'd guess they wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful and might have been consigned to the wilderness by now. Overhyped rubbish.

By that logic why not just say the only songs that count are instrumentals.

You have to be pretty strange if you dont get moved by lyrics as well.

Strange Fruit, shipbuilding, sorted for Es and Whizz. All memorable for lyrics not the music. All really move me or make me think and feel.

Music can be felt.

Lyrics is what makes it a SONG

The combination of both is FAR FAR better than just one element.

They have returned with new material! I use 'new' in a very loose term, as they havn't learned a single new chord, tune, key or drum beat. Absolutely horrendous band.

The Script = poor man's Cribs (who I also don't like either). Rip-off band in the extreme.

..... What!!!???.... Now, I'm not particularly a fan of the Cribs either, but they are NOTHING like the Script - There is absolutely no comparison.

The Script are actually just a British/Irish take on Maroon 5 - both are absolutely awful, but like what always happens in British/Irish music, if there is a successful American act, then some faceless committee in a boardroom in London or Dublin always decides to dream up a copycat act.

Witness Professor Green's terrible impersonation of Eminem, or Jessie J's take on Katy Perry - Absolutely terrible and an embarrassment for all involved in their creation.

Also, as for Eminem, why, 15 years after becoming successful and fantastically rich, does the boring fooker keep peddling the same self-pitying nonsense, especially the tedious stuff about his relationship with his mum??

And, while I'm having a rant, why can't U2 just give it up now??.... the musical equivalent of the embarrassing uncle dancing at the wedding.

The Script are pop pap, the Cribs are an energetic, powerful band who are pretty damn good live.

In there pomp they were a great band.
Bruce Dickinson was a superb singer and front man.

Run to the Hills was great album.

If you think they were the worst metal band ever i can only assume you have listened to two metal bands and are comparing them to someone like Black Sabbath.
