Perhaps the greatest to ever run out at HQ. Sad.

| Such sad news to hear about the passing of Lewis Jones.
I have been fortunate over the years to have spoken to him at club functions and he was always such a nice down to earth man.
The Leeds club have definitely lost one of their greatest ever players.
He was always my dads favourite player.
R.I.P Lewis and condolences to his family at this very sad time

He was me late Dads favourite player too. I met him once when I was guest of my Dad in the taverners and he bought me a pint of Guinness.

Its lovely to hear nice tales about players that were playing well before our time but who our dad's used to idolise.

| Indeed. My dad rated Lewis as the best. I remember him cajoling me into getting his autograph when I was about ten.
Another memory was drinking beer after beer with a retired blacksmith in deepest Wales. Steeped in union, he agreed with my dad's view. Beat me at arm wrestling too...not great, given I was in my 20s and he in his 70s. Though I did beat him easy on his other arm, the one he hadn't been using to hammer iron for decades. A great night spent talking about greats of both codes.

| My dad first took me to Headingley in1952 when we signed Lewis. Greatest player ever to play either code. Plus a true gentleman, I feel privileged to have seen him at his best.
Deepest sympathy to his family
R.I.P.

| I’m actually really sad at this news, he was a link to a generation that have all but gone now, and he’s gone to join that great rugby team in the sky. A genuine legend of the club and the game, and quite a Maths Teacher too.
RIP Lewis Jones, the King of Rugger.

50 years a Rhino / Loiner...long may it go on!: |

| My childhood hero.
Lewis Jones set many records, but my overwhelming memory of watching him was the way he was able to make the impossible appear both graceful and effortless.
Rest in peace Maestro.

My Dad's fave. Often compared him to Iestyn Harris, but with more pace.

| My owd fella’s ( a born and bred Wiganer) favourite ever player. He could regale for hours about him. He must have been a sensational player.
He was obviously a humble guy too which doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

He was to Leeds what Billy Boston is to Wigan , different style but the greatest of players
