Liam Sutcliffe has signed a new multi year deal at the club, in the league express tonight. Likely the full announcement will come out in the coming days.

I’m happy with this. He looked very good back end of last season. Wonder which position they’ve promised him as I can’t imagine he’d sign without sorting where he’s going to play. Suspect left centre personally

I tend to agree with most things you post, Trebor, but I just don't see it with Sutcliffe. I can't imagine what position they could promise him, because at full strength he's not in my first team, and he must have been told that at some point last year, hence his desire to leave. I don't think he's rubbish, just average, but surely that shouldn't be good enough to merit a multi year contract with Leeds.

As an outsider, this surprises me.

You would think if Leeds wanted to step back up to that next level in challenging for the title, the last thing they would do is promise the likes of Sutcliffe a starting shirt, no offense to the lad I dont think he is a top player in any of the positions he plays, his value surely must be his utility.

The lad obviously wants to play week in week out as he has already expressed the need to leave if not, Honestly thought he would be on his way to a club like Cas.

I don't think they would have promised him anything other than you have the shirt at the moment and when everyone fit its up to you to keep it.He also knows he can slot in at second row if need.It all went quite from the Cas end so i'm not sure he had many options.

Yeah maybe so. I could be judging it wrongly there.. just initial thoughs. If it’s not for major money I quite like it. It could be incremental with increases d built in for improvement etc etc who knows. Personally I thought it was best I’ve seen him in the last 3rd of last season since he came through and looked like a new Kev.

Dependent on the contract size potentially Sutcliffe could be a valuable squad player with the ability to cover a number of positions. I thought he was solid at left centre without offering the strike power of a top class 4. When you consider he has previously played full back and stand off and we have given him a multi-year deal it suggests that any potential deal for Jake Connor next year is unlikely.

Problem with promising him a set position is the moment an injury happens in a game they will usually move him. He must realise that and have come to terms with that.

I exoect him to start at centre to not rush Newman back but once Newman is full go Sutty will be covering every position bar prop and 9.

Hes useful as a utility but iy doesnt help him. He played well at the back end of last seasion tho as others have said

I think Sutcliffe is a decent player. I actually thought he was one of our top 5 performers towards the back end of the season at centre.

Has always been a bit of a scapegoat on here for me. He might have a bit of the curse of Lee Smith about him, but you really need those players in your squad (as long as there aren't too many of them!).

Give him a good run at centre, get Newman back to 100% without having to rush him, and put pressure on Hurrel to imrpove for another contract after this year. Otherwise maybe we use his marquee money on a bit gun 6 for 2021! Smart business by Sir Kev once again.

For me it's not bad business by club I can't see L.Sutcliffe being on mega money and he is a very good utility player can cover majority of positions on pitch if needed in case of injury etc. If I was to pick a match day 17 if all of our players were fit I personally wouldn't have L.Sutcliffe in there but Agar seems to have got a bit more out of his game last season and he looked very good towards back end of season. It'll also put pressure on Hurrell to perform consistently at centre, we also don't know how Harry Newman is gonna come back from his leg break as well ( but my money is he'll be an even better player when he returns ) it also creates competition for places in centres and back row so can only benefit squad. I believe L.Sutcliffe is now our longest servant in great current squad as well.

I certainly hope we have not offered him a permanent spot.
He has tried almost every position and still looks average.
Granted he played ok for 4 or 5 games last year but was that playing above his level as we didn`t expect it?
For me he is not what we should be offering a multi year contract if we want to be a top 4 team.
I see Battye has signed for Wakefield and would rather we spent money on him as a squad filler than Sutcliffe if I`m honest.
Whilst Battye is no world beater he would fill the gap at prop in our squad.

He's still highly regarded at Leeds as he ever was by the coaching team etc.

Maybe with a settled run in the team and some new impetus he can start delivering the goods we all know he can on a regular basis.

Either that or put himself in the shop window for a decent contract / move elsewhere.

Oh no they say opposites attract and you and I would get on just fine mate.
Once again I totally disagree with what you are saying.
His attitude isn`t that good, he is average at best and it isn`t well deserved as he`s had that many chances in several positions and still hasn`t nailed one yet.
Maybe this time he might make me eat my words.
But Shabino you know we never agree icon_wink.gif

Lol, good lad. I don't think he'll make you eat your words as he's not suddenly going to become a world beater. But versatility is valuable to us, and he does a good consistent job at left centre......
