| There were three things that stroke me last night at the game:
1. The quality of the majority of the players
2. The lack of structure/game plan
3. The lack of leadership on the field
Yes Leeds won all three trophies last season but was it a case of Leeds over achieving on the back of Sinfield and Peacock. If you look at the pack last night you would struggle to find one never mind mind 3/4 class players. They just look average at best poor in most cases of the ones missing only Ward would be a significant upgrade. I think Ablett is past his best now and has shown nothing in the last 18 months to suggest he would be any better. The backs are more depleted but even if you had the three back - not convinced Briscoe or Hall would do any better than Handley - they would struggle behind such an ineffective pack. I talked about desire previously - didn't see a lot of that last night - saw a lot players going through the motions.
If you looked at Huddersfield last night they had a simple game plan which they stuck too - they didn't over complicate simple stuff easy to execute, strong defence and a good kicking game. Leeds on the other hand no structure, no game plan, no quality, no execution. Experienced players forcing the play, how many times did Cuthbertson off load the ball to a Huddersfield player? No wonder Bennett didn't want him. You can blame injuries, Kirkstall, players leaving but there is simply no excuse for a such chaotic disorganised performance. Surely common sense would say dumb down your game plan to suit the side you have out on the field? McDermott apologist you have to accept this is his job and if the players aren't/won't listen to him or last night was his game plan then he has had his time. This isn't about winning its about the quality/competence of performance the coach is responsible for that. Last night was pathetic as bad as it gets.
Discipline last night was abysmal - no one getting a grip. Huddersfield weren't great last night but Leeds contributed significantly to their own downfall. No leadership on or off the field. Somebody should have been giving Cuthbertson a mouthful after his attempts at forcing the game time after time. Nobody there to get a grip not even JJB.
The squad needs an overhaul - its needs strengthening in quality and numbers - no good having 8 fillers/youngsters in a squad of 25 it simply isn't good enough. Recruitment is needed is key positions, hooker x 2, half back, prop.
The coaching needs addressing McDermott looks out of depth, this is not the first time this has happened but it would appear the senior players have got him out of the mire in the past. There are only so many army manoeuvres you can go on before they stop having an impact. A good Aussie coach is what is required to lift everything and get some pride back in the jersey.
A new leader - even if McGuire can get fit he will only have one more season so Leeds need to be looking at the next leader maybe Ward may be somebody from outside but something has to change.

| Agree entirely with all that. And glad to see no praise of individuals last night, as there wasn't any deserving. The ones that did stand out, were only because of how poor the others were.
Three games against Huddersfield this season, and these two teams really are the worst two in the league this year. There is nothing to be positive on with the current set up. Some youngsters deserve much better guidance than this.

That is the worry, there are some clearly very good kids who will learn from the playing time, but their is a point where if the team around them doesn't pick up, then they Rick not developing and getting binned/needing a fresh start. "Some youngsters deserve much better guidance than this.'" ]

| Having just watched the highlights their was some true u'8s style tackling going on for all the Hudds tries. All desperate grabbing.
Also how slow is our middle unit laterally, all you have to do is pull them one way then the other and you're sure to find a gap. How the hell were we a more mobile unit with two 37 year olds there last year. A proper hooker would no doubt improve it but we handled without Aiton for bits last year...

This has been what a lot of us have bangged on about after every game. No organisation, defence always fractured and on the back foot with ruck dominated by the opposition.Again ill say it, it doesn't look like it is being addressed on the training field and Mcdermott has to take responsibility for this imo.
