| This might have been posted elsewhere but just had the email from HQ. I like Danny he is and has been a match winner for us on many occasions but I think this is a mistake. That is unless the responsibility of the captains band can make him be more level headed. Without Sir Kev or Jamie on the field who is really going to tell Danny to chill the out when Charnley or the like has been winding him up? Great player but not a leader of men I think.

| Only real choice for me at this stage. He deserves his shot. Funny though that he mentioned in his interview that his game won't change, but that he will have to control his temper a bit more now he's captain. I think he'll step up and do the job, and do it well.
Also in Brian McDermott's interview he mentions that McGuire has the respect of his team mates, which I guess is the stuff off the field we don't see and is important to a captaincy.
Such a big change this year I think McGuire with a team of leaders around him is the best we have just now. Until the likes of Ward and Hardaker mature and step up.

| I don't know whether Danny will make a good captain or not. But the decision is made and I hope that we can all pull together and get behind our new Captain. Time will tell.

| Congrats to Danny but I share some of the concerns expressed on the other thread about his petulance and don't believe he is 'ideal captain material' if there even is such a thing.
For me, if we are looking for someone from the 'golden generation' had it not been for the fact he's out half the season and I fear this might be his last season (whereas I think Mags has 2-3 years max left in him) I personally would have gone for JJB. The guy has the same respect, is a good motivational speaker and has more of the calm exterior persona shown by his best mate, Sir Kev (certainly when compared to Magsy)

| Congratulations Danny. I think he deserves his chance and I am sure he will get the same sort of assistance from JJB (when he returns) as Sinny got from JP.

| McGuire will be fine. JJB won't spend enough time on the field but otherwise ideal.

I love playing for him. I can't praise him enough, I've so much respect for him and I hope he's here for a very long time." Kevin Sinfield 29/9/12:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_68506.jpg |

| Just watched the GF again. It reminded me how central he is to the mechanics of this team - the individual flair is just a small percentage of his game.

| No announcement on a vice captain though which would've been the interesting one (as McGuire was obvious for captain) in terms of it hinting who'd take over as captain long term potentially.

| Not surprised and hopefully he'll do a brilliant job.
Printer- 100% agree re-VC not being announced id have thought he would be Burrow but also wouldn't be surprised to see it passed to a younger member of the Team.

| He deserves the appointment and he had a very good season last year ,he's 33 now I wonder how long he can continue his form? I would love to see him collect a trophy before he finishes

I watched the CC final again the other day and straight away after the first try from Delaney, whilst Sinfield is down the other end lining up the conversion it's McGuire back in the Leeds half gathering everyone together dishing out instructions and leading the group, something he's done on many occasions over the years with Sinfield 50m away lining up a kick.

| I don't like how he bleats at referees & hopefully he will temper that. But he is hardly alone as a captain if he does - O'Loughlin (who looks as if he is about to cry every time Wigan are penalised), Brough & Briers have been relatively successful in that mould.

I've just listened to him on the Website and he did say I'll have to watch my temper at times.I think he'll be ok

Well I certainly will not be writing off JJB so easily. Just because he has had an unlucky run of injury does not mean it will continue. Nobody in the squad plays with more intensity, energy and enthusiasm so he will remain one of the first names on the team sheet when he returns. So his leadership qualities will be a big help to McGuire.

I would be tempted to pick 2 or 3 vice captains because more rotations are likely this year plus the usual batch of injuries. This would also give the opportunity for one of the youngsters to get some experience.
