| Today has seen Castleford get the first green light to start work on there new ground
Now our beloved home is not getting any younger and plans to redevelop seems to have ground to a complete and utter halt
So redevelopment a pointless exercise? A new ground a daft idea or do we just stay as we are as our rivals get new facilities?

| Does it need redevelopment? Is it not hitting the sl standards?
As I understood it wheldon road nearly blew down and a move has long been needed.
If Leeds were to move we would need a lot more than ten thousand seats. It would be a huge investment. I can't see it.

Put it this way the South Stand needs a seriously big cuddle

| Headingley isn't a problem. It's a massive great asset that makes us loads of money.
It obviously needs redevelopment. It'll happen over time as we can afford it. The North Stand will be done relatively soon. It'll then be a case of "saving up" to do the South Stand. The South Stand is, in my opinion, the last that actually needs doing. It serves it's purpose.
The North Stand needs doing first (and will be in conjunction with the Cricket redevelopment) as it's the stand that brings the money in. The Western Terrace is obviously the most in need but we all know why it won't happen for a while.
Any suggestion of moving to a new ground is, with respect, batsh|t crazy. There's too much invested (Leeds continually invest in the stadium) in Headingley and it brings in too much money to consider moving, regardless of other issues that come from moving to a new stadium.

This pretty much.We would be crazy to even consider moving away.Yes things need doing and i am sure they will get done over the next decade, especially the South Stand which has been talked about before and the North stand will be done in due course.
Good news Cas have got the go ahead though. With the red rose clubs all having shiny modern stadia we have been left behind a bit this side of the pennines but with Hull KR making good upgrades and now Cas set to be in a new ground in a couple of seasons, assuming we make the upgrades at Headingley then of the current SL clubs only Wakey will be left with a ground not really up to scratch.

| I like watching the game at Headingley. I also like Belle Vue and the Rent-a-pump (or whatever it's called). More than I do the plastic palaces of Warrington, Wigan and Saints.

I would agree with you wholeheartedly. i would have said the same about Central Park,Knowsley Road and Wilderspool however you have to move with the times at the top level of the sport.

| I wouldn't want us to move to a new stadium. Granted it has its flaws and the sport has needed these shiny new stadiums but we should try and keep at least one of the 'oldies'

| I'll believe Cas are moving to a new stadium when the pitch is marked out and the posts go up.
Another recession, and retail heavy developments like that one will be the first to get tanked.

Yep. Also don't forget the new Cas stadium will be a community stadium. ie not owned by Castleford Tigers like the Leigh Sports Village. Whilst it will provide better facilities in which to watch RL it doesn't provide Castleford with their own stadium from which they can bank every penny of income. Since Wheldon Road is in such a poor state of repair and doesn't bring in good revenues then a move is the best solution. But it wouldn't be for a club like Leeds who have a stadium that does bring in money.
Unlike other clubs Leeds actually kept their stadium up to a reasonable standard (even in the bad times) so don't have to sell their only asset in order to survive.

| Is there no way around putting a roof over the Away stand(West?)
Is it a light issue with the houses behind or do the cheap b'stard just want to watch a game for free?

That public footpath next to Western Terrace I believe is the problem as its public access

| Headingley is one of the worst grounds for visibility - both the north and the south stand have pillars all over the place that restrict view if you are not high up in both stands you cannot see the try line at both ends. Visibility in the lower tier of the carneige and the whole of the western terrace isn't great. Not having a quarter of your ground covered and zero possibility of that ever happening is also a longer term issue. Wooden seats in the ground's most expensive enclosure!!
Headingley has a unique atmosphere and a superb playing surface but as a stadium of an elite club is a disgrace really.

| TBH I prefer Headingley to any of the soulless modern all seater grounds. The view in the southstand is great apart from the odd pillar. What it loses in viewing it makes up for in atmosphere. Make everyone sit down and you’ll lose that.
The away end could do with some cover but I rarely use that as I prefer the southstand if I’m coming to Headingley. You could do with a bit more legroom in the Northstand.
Thoughts of a move away from Headingley are insanity IMO.
