Is this the lowest Leeds have finished in the league since Murray?

Lowest since first season of summer rugby isn't it? Just after nearly going bust and rebuilding.

McDermott does not have a good record in the league at all throughout his coaching career. Does not look good for next years changes of just top 4. Is it just once in his career finished in a top 4?

We've had alot of very narrow defeats/draws. If just one of those results had gone our way the outlook would be completly different for us. 6th is almost a false position, we are not the 6th best team in the league. We have beaten all our rivals in a knockout situation this season apart from huddersfield and wigan who we haven't met in that type of cicrcumstance.

It's unlikely leeds would do it from 6th, but you never know.

Very disappointing league position at present,But the top 6 has been so much tighter this season

I wouldn't swop the defeats around our CC semi and final as we won the game that mattered most IMO

We will play Catalans or Widnes at home first up at Headingley before playing a defeated side from week one away the week after, it is still within our capabilities to win in from there

It's not good enough is it?
CC aside since week 14 I think we have been ordinary and at times abysmal of course that doesn't mean I expect us to win every game nor be brilliant every week either plus the fine detail will reveal injuries etc.
However this squad should be beating the relegated teams home and away and we still witness some questionable selections/subs etc plus I still think not having a F/T no2 has bitten us.
Hopefully the lads can up the gears in the play offs they are certainly capable of beating any of the teams they will face but its not unfair or wrong to ask ?'s of the Squad or Management.

Warrington are a team going into the playoffs with momentum and confidence. Whereas our lacklustre and error strewn performance last night does not bode well for a storming finish to the season.

Warrington-Wigan Final for me, and I'd happily settle for that Wembley win this year.

I don't know why people are kicking off about this now to be honest. We could see this a mile off when we dropped those points against london and bradford. This is why people kicked off about those results so much.

I said back then that unless leeds won the CC they'd completly screwed the season. Thankfully, we got the result and have a trophy but now the grand final is a tough ask. We didn't need to lose against 2 relegated teams to win the CC. We should be going into the playoffs with the CC and a very good chance at the double, arther than an outside chance.

Does that mean we went into the playoffs with form and momentum last season because of our win at wigan?

Who knows what can happen. Nobody gave us a chance from 5th but we did it twice. Nobody gave us a chance against Saints in the cup, and despite being shocking at times this year when we play with intensity and a game plan we're as good as anybody. Wigan lost 7 of their last 9 SL fixtures last season and they managed it. I don't think we will win but nothing would surprise me with this group of players.

Wigan finished 4th, played an inexperienced team and got the win, had a week off and a home game into the final.

It's the second game that will screw leeds in the playoffs. By no means a gimme, you'd like to think they'd win the first game. But there's no really weak teams above leeds. In 2011 they played a huddersfield team that had collasped, and 2012 they played catalans. Through circumstance they basically ended up playing teams that weren't true contenders. We saw last season that when leeds had a real douzy in the second game (saints) it showed in the final semi against wigan who'd had a week off.

I'm 100% certain wigan will be in the final now. I think saints injuries will cost them, and cas don't have the playoff experience. If I was a betting man I'd say a wigan warrington final, with leeds going out in the final semi, probably against wigan.

There's not a huge amount you can really learn from this year because next year is a different format and no one really knows how it's going to play out. If it's as tight at the top as it is this season and you get through to the latter stages of the CC you could be seriously compromised in having the chance to actually compete for the grand final.

Whilst some will love to play on the lowest ever finish in X amount of years I think we've shown more about us this year than in the 2011 & 2012 campaigns clearly even if we finished one place higher then and arguably for a period better than 2013.

As I said the other week, if Saints had beaten us in Round 5 of the cup and went on to Wembley instead, we'd have a comfortable cushion at the top of the league and they'd be down in 6th IMO.

They'll be the usual talk of the club not caring about the league yet we go into the last round of games with the leanest defence still (12 fewer than Wigan) so to label any side who concede the fewest points over the campaign as not being bothered will be ridiculous, the key to defence is attitude and effort.

You might be right.....and I have been very impressed with the committed defence this season (good to watch and enough to win the CC where it reached its zenith)...

BUT there just aint enough in attack to get the team all the way to a winning GF this time IMO (even with the return of Burrow and McGuire).

Quote: Sal Paradise "Is this the lowest Leeds have finished in the league since Murray?'"

Lowest since Sky demanded its latest purchase perform the role of submissive buttplug and fill that gaping hole in their summer schedules during the soccer off-season.

That'll be 1996 when Leeds finished 10th out of 12 ahead of Paris St Germain and Workington courtesy of 6 wins (including the double over the aforementioned two plus against Sheffield and Castleford) and 16 losses.

Finishing 6th in 2014 is another testament to Leeds utter contempt for regular season league placings under the current ludicrous structure as they fully understand the rewards of deliberate, tossing-it-off mediocrity. The sight of McDermott last night during his post-match Sky interview feigning disappointment at his teams failure to finish much higher on the ladder was to be expected. What else can he say?

The game owes Leeds and McDermott a huge debt of gratitude as their utter contempt for the regular season has been mirrored by other SL clubs in recent times which has played a crucial role in effecting structural change in order to render the regular season as meaningful once again. I'm not convinced that every minute will count next season but some minutes counting is better than the current 'none'.

Wake me up for the Semi Final after Leeds have disposed of whipping boy SL rabble at home in week 1 (French Surrender Monkeys or Widnes) followed by whipped/bruised/injury-decimated SL rabble (St Helens probably) in week 2.

Finishing 5th or 6th by plenty! (Won't be able to say that next season, thankfully)
