| Why didn't Briscoe play at centre against Wigan instead of Sutcliffe?

| Clearly McDermott doesn't think he (or BJB) can do a job at centre. See Ward playing there away at Saints, or Hardaker vs Salford with BJB playing at FB.
Not sure how well either Briscoe or BJB would do at centre but surely can't be that bad that it isn't worth a try.

| Not sure about this. I still think Sutcliffe's long term future may lie at centre. He looks a better runner than a game manager (may change with time I know), good step, the makings of a good defender when he gets a bit more experience, decent hands. I'd quite like to see him play there a bit more.

You might be right on it. I personally don't see him as long term stand off.
But what I would say, if he is to prove himself as a centre then it should be on loan or dual reg, because we have better centre options.

| Sutcliffe has always struck me as a 1/2 more than a 3/4.
Do you think he'd stand up defensively as a centre?

3076_1671446335.jpg SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS
For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

| I thinks Sutcliffe will eventually be a #13. I've been a bit disappointed with Stevie Ward as I expected him to have progressed better than he has. I know he had a bad injury which has held him back but like watching good young players come through the junior systems and he was exceptional a few years back. Let's hope for the games sake that he gets back on track.

I might be wrong but he did seem to be lacking some pace.
If we have the likes of Sinfield/McGuire and Sutcliffe in the backs it sort of nullifies the pace the rest of them have.

I think that's fair. But I wouldn't want to see long-term loans, as he can get his chances at centre when other players are out. Wigan weren't really the ideal team to start with. But if Watkins or Moon are out against a bottom 6 club, for example, Sutcliffe could get some game time. The cup match against Leigh would be worth a go.

Yeah I do. He's pretty good in contact, and will only get stronger. Some of his defensive reads are not great at the moment, but I think some of that will come with experience.

| Now that BJB is definitely leaving end of season it's time to stop cocking about with Briscoe. He should play every week and build up the understanding with Watkins. BJB should now be used as the reserve back, only getting a game when we have an injury to wings or FB (although personally speaking if he has the skill to play FB then he should be able to play centre).
Rotation serves no purpose now. Briscoe is a better winger, he should play if fit.

I agree with the additional caveat that he should be used to allow rest for backs too, certainly hall, hardaker and briscoe
