| Question for anyone who's recorded tonight's game... In the 34th min delaney is held up in a 2 or 3 man tackle and it appeared to me that a wigan player came in late and targeted delaney's heavily strapped knee.... Would be typical maguire tactic and the sort of thing that needs heavily stamping down on
Having said that, without seeing a replay it could just be coincidence so would be interested to k ow if anyone else noticed.

| It's called tackling. First two secure the upper body, the third clamps the legs together and slides down to stop their momentum.
That's the theory anyway, we were shocking at it tonight.

Is it balls. It's called 'snapping the pole' at Wigan and was a Maguire tactic aimed at slowing the play the ball down. If it injures the opposition player, even better.
Wayne Bennett has been on the warpath about it in the NRL for 12 months at least.
If the ball carrier is held on his upper body, you shouldn't be able to impact the legs with anything other than a grab. It's far more dangerous and causes far more injuries than shoulder charges ever did.

I just watched it back. Tuson came in at waist height with the shoulder and then wrapped the legs up. Delaney was slow to get up but he was already struggling from the hit he put in on Hansen about 30 seconds before. As for targeting an injury you can't expect him to run round to the other side as his left leg had strapping on it.
I know it was highlighted when Maguire was coaching Wigan, Lima was a bad one for it, this results in some watching Wigan more closely than others. ALL teams use the so called 'tactic'. It's called tackling. 2 take the upper body and one wraps the legs up to stop any further momentum. As long as the 3rd man in doesn't take the knees, particularly from the back or side and ensures contact is with the upper thigh or waist there isn't a problem. If impact is at knee height then players should be banned.

Seems a fair post, I do agree that Wigan tend to be watched more closely with maguire's influence. There is quite a fine line between a reasonable tackle and a dangerous one on this and Lima as you say was a bad one for it.

| Third man in taking the legs is all well and good if they hit with the shoulder above the knee and wrap their arms.
Under Maguire, both Lima and Hoffman in particular were swines for coming in third man with the shoulder right on the knee and no attempt to wrap the arms, the "cannonball" tackle.
Thankfully it doesn't seem as prevalent under Wane.

I'm sure this happened against Wigan at Headingley earlier in the season. Think it was Ablett in the southstand/east stand corner later in the match.
