| A very good coach and a very decent chap. The man that laid the foundations for the Leeds side of the 21st century, you will always be remembered on the South Stand.
RIP Graham Murray

| Not sure if I included it in the original, but Leeds never lost successive games under Murray, save for the last couple of weeks of his reign ....

| A fantastic tribute and, for somebody of my age range, a very informative read.
I knew he was a fantastic coach from what he achieved and the foundations he laid at Leeds, I wasn't aware of the brilliant work he had done at pretty much every club he had been it.
RIP Muzza.

| Just one correction needed for me in that fitting tribute, IIRC, Graham Murray told Leeds' CEO Gary Hetherington that he would be leaving at the end of 1999 before a ball was kicked that season. Indicative of the man to give such an extended period of notice allowing the maximum opportunity for a quality replacement to be sought. Indeed I'd like to think that it helped galvanise the side throughout the tremendous run to the Challenge Cup final and Wembley triumph as the players wanted to win something for a coach that had given them so much in such a short period of time.
The man was a genius for me. Having lived in the great Wigan shadow for so long he was the coach that finally took the fight right back to them - and more often than not came away triumphant. No Leeds coach has such a good record V the then yardstick team of the period - his immediate predecessor didn't gain a point from them in five meetings over the previous two seasons nor did they get anything out of Bradford in six - Murray's Leeds got parity with the latter over the next six and the better of the former (overall) during their eight meetings including some never to be forgotten nights at Central Park - Adrian Morley returning a re-start like there was no tomorrow, a run with the type of aggression sadly lacking these days, I'm not sure we'll see the like of again and Brad Godden getting the better of the vice-like Connolly defence leading to delirium on the terraces.
Thanks Graham - such memories will never die.

| After that Wigan game mate we were waalking back to the car and these 4 old dears just started ripping into us saying we were a dirty team with rowdy fans PMSL.
Although they were taken aback when my old man reminded them what had happened to Morley.

| Gave me my best times as a supporter, the pack were ferocious, and Harris remains in my opinion the most naturally gifted player I have ever seen.

That game had one of the most highly charged, brutal atmospheres I can recall pre or post Super League.
If I were Nigel Wood I would rent a huge cinema, sit every Super League player and coach in it and make them watch a screening of that game to point out THAT is what they should be serving up for the fans every week instead of the insipid tame shizer we often see.

icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg |

Agreed the greatest game played during the SL era bar none - the brutality on the field was truly gladitorial, a true spectical. Godden's try to see it from behind was a piece of sporting genius.
