Inspired by Damo's thoughts on the Challenge Cup and other posters views on Super League I had a thought about how to change the face of RL for the better.

If Damo's assertion that the speccys are just waitng for the later rounds of the cup before getting excited are correct, and the consensus being that SL doesn't matter until late August then my idea would be as follows:

Challenge Cup - Draws take place as normal, but instead of ties being played a 'Pools Panel' sits to decide the results. This method continues until we have 4 teams for the semi finals which are played out normally to huge audiences. (We've built pent-up demand)

Super League - All regular rounds are dispensed with and decided by the afore-mentioned pools panel. The Top Eight would then play off as normal culminating in the Grand Final at OT.

I think this would benefit everybody - the players say they play too many matches.
Spectators don't turn up to the early rounds of the cup so clubs wouldn't have to put on loss making fixtures
There is obviously little interest in the SL comp until August so we can all enjoy our Globally Warmed summers safe in the knowledge that the normal 8 teams will achieve their top 8 status.

Of course this is a 'work in progress' and any ideas are welcome

When I read the thread title I was expecting it to be by Damo . Imagne my horror/amusement when I realised that his rantings have awoken and inspired somebody who could possibly be the new Damo .

I am sat here eagerly awaiting a response to the OP from THE special one .

Why don't we , instead of having the regular rounds of both the league and the CC , have a totally different concept to decide the finalists ?

It could involve the dance troupes . milk-churns , cake ( lots of cake , for there must always be cake) , and coffee-tables .

Anyone gonna vote for me when I stand for election to the board on the RFL ?

If cake is involved you have my vote... are you proposing cake for me voting for you or for cake to take the place of games?
