So if Wigan are up Poop Creek without a Paddle with Injuries, Saracens can Loan a Player to Prop up the Squad?
Could this be for "Free" and not count towards the Salary Cap?
Loop Hole?
Not what it seems?

It shouldn't affect the salary cap since any payments to players from a 3rd party that is linked to the SL club in any way count on the salary cap. Also since Union players are generally paid more then it's probably an expensive way of gaining short-term players in terms of the salary cap.
I'd suggest it's a partnership similar to those of Leeds with half the NRL.

Our link up with Souths was no gimmick though.

| There's much more to it.
There is a proposal going before Superleague (RFL) to allow the signing of one RU player and his salary will NOT count on the salary cap in year one of his contract. In year two only 50% of his salary will count.

Will that also include ex RL players that have failed in union and want to come home?

Even if true, I reckon this would be dead in the water. Why would the lesser clubs vote in favour? There's nothing in it for them other than an even less competitive league.

How are they going to define "union player"? A contracted professional or anyone who turned out for Orrell 4ths once last year?
Would this mean someone could offer Sonny Bill Williams a million quid for one season and 50 quid for year two and it not be counted as cap (bar the 25 quid of course)? Not sure how allowing clubs to spend more money on players can't be done via the existing salary cap if that's what the RFL think is needed. I'd rather see that money being spent keeping RL players out of Union than getting Union players into RL. Preferably I'd rather see RL clubs not getting up the creek debt wise at all.

This. Even the best ideas devised by the RFL are riddled with loopholes and this one is just asking for trouble.
What's to stop <random NRL star> being signed by Leeds Carnegie, only to be "rescued" by the Rhinos a few months later because "the move to Union didn't work out"?

| just read in this mornings yorkshire post about an article called hybrid rugby, this brings the two rival codes are brought together in a game of two halves, this has been in development for the last three years, originated in Australia and emphasises pure skill levels in both union and league, cutting out negative features of both codes offers greater entertainment, does not intend to replace either code, interesting reading but I don't know how to put a link to it, but it's in this mornings YP, any one heard of this elswhere?
