| I read somewhere that he'd already "proved himself on the international stage", so this comes as a shock to me as I was expecting him to be retiring as a New Zealand legend and counting all his medals that he's won whilst "proving himself on the international stage".

| Says a lot about what he McNamara thinks of the English lads. English players will never improve whilst there is this loophole.

| Now i'm all for us doing exactly the same as the Aussies and Kiwis and imo Heighington for e.g is fair game but come on this guy played last autumn for the Maori team and this year for the Exiles i don't mind a joke but fook a pantomime.

| So long as Chase qualifies and wants to play for England I have no problem at all with him being in the team. In this case I understand Chase approached McNamara, which suggests he really wants it.
RL fans seem to be incredibly insular, and satisfied with cr*p at international level for the sake of some idealised purity which doesn't exist even amongst the teams we play. Our own Brent Webb played for NZ despite being as Kiwi as Chase is English for example, and there are numerous examples of players being eligible for both Aus and NZ and having to make a choice of one or the other.
England's cricket team has long been filled with South Africans, and the Yawnion team has shown a willingness to go for anybody who can improve their side. That's what we desperately need IMO - more of a win-at-all-costs attitude.
As for the impact on younger players, it tells them that McNamara doesn't think they're good enough. If they want to cry about that, then that's their problem. What it ought to make them do is realise they need to work hard at becoming better players.
I had a lot of doubts about McNamara when he took over, and still doubt his actual coaching credentials, but he has added immesurably to the strength of the squad available for England this year, and I for one take my hat off to him for that.

| Is Chase still on the overseas trained quota?
The Exiles were supposedly selected with that criteria in mind, although they immediately ignored it by selecting Thomas Leuluai.
If Chase is eligible and now commits to England then I have no objection to him making the squad just as I had no objection when Fa'asavalu did likewise not so long ago.

| I take what Richie & Brisbane have said, and generally I'd agree. It does seem a few too many all at one time though. With Heighington a definate, Cherry-Evans being looked at and now Chase.
I think it's a bit daft from McNamara when the halves are fairly well covered at the moment with Tomkins, Widdop, McGuire, Burrow, Brough, Myler, Brown, Robinson, Gaskell, Lomax & even Sinfield as viable options without the "controversial" aspect of adding Chase.

So if Benji Marshall qualified (and [iwanted[/i to play for England) you'd refuse him too ?
