A moment for Reflection.

As this is the last time that Leeds,will visit The Willows.A moment of reflection for Chris Sanderson,who tragically lost
his life,after taking ill on the ground,in 1977.Chris was 22 and had broken in to a great Leeds side the season before.
I have been a fan of the Red Devils since 1954

I remember that day listening to the rugby on the radio with my dad when they announced the news of what had happened. Tragic loss for Leeds RL and Chris Sanderson's family. A time for reflection indeed.

I was a close friend of the late John Holmes and he told me that the lowest point of his career was when the Leeds team returned to the dressing room at Salford to be told that Chris had passed away.

A tragic incident which took a very promising young player from the game.

Sadly - together with the Mick Shoebottom injury - memories of his death will always be evoked in fixtures between Salford & Leeds.

My dad has told me of that day. He was the same age as Chris.

This post is a funny coincidence lastnight after listening to the game,I got all the old books out Headingley story volumes etc and was reading again about that tragic fateful day

as a salford fan , hopefully our club can have a minutes silence in memory of this tragic loss

It might just be me but I don't care for the choice of wording used for the photo tagline or when it was repeated at the head of the article.

Chris Sanderson was injured while attempting to make a tackle on Salford's Ken Gill. There was an accidental clash of heads and Sanderson was left unconscious on the ground. He died shortly after in Hope hospital just down the road from the Willows. As the article goes on to state the inquest verdict was one of misadventure after what the coroner described as a 'one-in-a-million' accident.

I thought the same too, he wasn't "killed" at all nor was any blame ever attached to the Salford player, a very poor article which you might hope could be edited properly.
