| In Brian McDermott and James Lowes we have two coaches that are hungry for what they can call their own success. Both of them have had stints as first team coaching and both of them have failed. For James Lowes the excuse would be lack of experience. Whilst Brian McDermott on the other hand can lay his coaching failures to date on lack of quality personal. The only coaching success either of them have had is as an assistant under Tony Smith.
Brian McDermott was number two to Tony Smith from 2004 until July 2006 where both saw this Leeds club top the table, become super league champions and world club champions. At Warrington under Tony Smith, James Lowes has seen Warrington become back to back challenge cup winners.
In hindsight I think we’re going to get two head coaches rather than one. Both have looked terrible when Tony Smith hasn’t been around. This is the last chance saloon for both these coaches and we should get a very good season of rugby league. If nothing happens at Leeds then there coaching careers with always be remembered for been spare parts of a Tony Smith regime.

| Having spent some time talking to BMD previously, he is a very knowledgeable and amiably guy who has the raw ingredients to make it. Obviously his success so far has been very limited, but that could be for any one of a number of reasons as documented previously.
Lowes is a more unknown quantity to me as far as coaching goes, however if you look at his ability and "nous" as a player he was one of the best of his generation. It remains to be seen how well he can transfer this into coaching IMO (his previous spell as a HC was too early in his career for me).
I have no doubt that they will significantly improve our discipline, meaning we will concede less easy metres, and other teams will have to work harder for their gains. I also think that our mental strength will improve, which is also a good thing.
I don't necessarily expect us to win anything next year, but that's not the measure for me, it's about improving our structure and being more consistent in a period of significant change.

| Some great points Batley.
I personally don't really know what to make of the Lowes appointment out of the many names mentioned/linked he would of been one of the last ones i'd of believed would be here but he's obviously gone through the interview process and both GH and Brian Mc have seen enough to offer him the job so i trust their judgement and like with Brian Mc becoming the Head coach the proof of the pudding etc etc.

| And if Adamson joins the fray, you have 3 raw coaches.
That's where an appointment of someone like Murray as an advisor/director in the background would have really worked. Someone who has been there, done it etc. would have brought and offered something different to the table. Leeds may have missed a trick here. Or they have saved money?
Brian Mc after his committed stint with the Quins needs to move on, thats fair enough. I just think having an old pro in the background would help him more than Lowes/Adamsons brain cells.

The club either has faith in the coach or they don't.
"Brian, we're bringing in Graham Murray because we don't really have faith in you, don't take it personally"

That's a good point tbh it would show a "lack of trust/faith" if GM was brought in.
I agree with your other suggestion about Gary Thornton aswell he'd be great as the u20's/3rd assistent imo.

| GH clearly has faith in BMcD.
He appointed Lowes on his say so, not something he was IMV prepared to do with either TS or Bluey who both had to work with GH appointees & who had no initial say in the men working under them.
I think that this may suggest that the new coach may have greater freedom than certainly Bluey had & may be the reason why TS was keen to move on.

Sometimes I like not being in trolling in mood. Not often though.
