| As all us verterans of many a Sky broadcast are aware, one of Eddie Hemmings stock phrases is something along the lines of "if anyone can come back from this, it's St Helens", or "you'd write any other team off in this situation, but this is Saints". This is always used when his beloved team are trailing in the last quarter of a televised match. In fact I do believe h has on more than one occaision coined the term "doing a St Helens", as a way of describing a team coming back from the "dead" (although Eddie's idea of "dead" can be 8 points down at half time), or coming up with a last gasp win.
I present the case now that this should be officialy changed to "doing a Leeds". The sight of John Kear's assistant smashing his clipboard last year as Scott Donald went over in what was the finish to t truly spectacular last 6 minutes at Wakey is surely enough on it's own. There was also a similar finish to the Warrington game last eyar. This year, however, we have seen the boys scrape over time and time again in the dying seconds to break opposition hearts. Add to that the fact that I believe the greatest last 15 minutes in SL history was Leeds coming back after trailing 20 nil to win, then the case is closed as far as I'm concerned.
Before the ever watchful Stains Massive chime in with a cry of "obsessed", I leave the forum open for them to offer counter argument based on the actual subject of the post - and in no way do I want this to spread into a wider debate of relative playing success over the last X years.

| St Helens were deserving of the title bestowed on them by Hemmings, the only question in my view is whether Leeds have now earned the right to the re-naming of the phrase in light of recent events?
When was the last time St Helens did a St Helens?
Matty Elliot falling off his chair and a monster 3 score comeback V Warrington is fairly ancient history now.

I couldn't think of one. If you only count televised games it's a no-contest, Leeds by 1st round KO. But there is apprantly RL played off Sky cameras somewhere every week. In that respect I couldn't say.
I also think as Leeds have decided to not win any games comfortably this year we have increased the chances of these last gasp victories significantly.

| I've just had a look back through St Helens 'recent' results and I got back to May 2009 (away at Les Catalans) before I found a St Helens win that perhaps qualified the term named in their honour.
Ironically they've been on the wrong end of a 'St Helens' far more often than inflicting one over the last 14 months.

| We play Warrington in two weeks so it's on the cards. I'll bookmark this for the semi final also, although i doubt you will get within 20 points of us if we're at full strength and the dry track arrives.

Fair comment. After all, the "mighty" S can't play in the rain now can they.

Or when the opposition "Whoop" after every big hit!
When t.v cameras are allowed in the dressing rooms.
Whenever they are forced to pick the "invisible man" at 6.
But still they are the best because phil clarke says so!

| I have to say that this harks back to the days of Basil when we were all attack and no defence. Then under Anderson we didn't do the Houdini type escapes very much because we didn't need to. Now (sadly) we're just quite dull under Potter. Here's hoping that all changes next season.

| Surely the whole "Saints can do anything" thing is purely down to one slightly fortuitous try against Bradford?

Yes you're right, we imagined the rest. The 96 CCF, the 3 tries in the final 2 minutes against Warrington etc etc all never happened.
