Leeds Akkies Rugby League club will have a new home for the 2010 Co-Operative Rugby League Conference season.

Following months of hard work behind the scenes, the Akkies committee has voted unanimously to become a part of the Old Modernians Association, based in Cookridge, North West Leeds.

By accepting membership of the Old Modernians Association, Leeds Akkies have now effectively become stakeholders rather than tenants for the first time in the club's seven-year history.

When I was a kid my folks did ‘volunteer’ bar duty every 3rd Sunday at the Old Mods. Many a Sunday lunch comprised of coke and crisps.

I may be tempted to pop down if there is going to be cake?

Also what the cake type will be at each game? I'm not that keen on anything with passion fruit and I’d be a bit disappointed if I turned up and the weeks offering was a passion fruit sponge.

We will also be running a second team in the merit league and a women's team, who will, where possible, all play on the same day of a first team fixture.

I believe there will be a small selection of cake, ranging from fruit and nut all the way to double chocolate fudge, depending on results on the field, naturally.

I attended a few games when Akkies played at Bramhope, as it was close to Yeadon, and now even less excuse to attend a few games.

You've sold it to me, no-one will scowl and tut-tut if a person went back for seconds or thirds would they ?

I believe it is actively encouraged.

I‘ve been doing some checking and there’s one or two games I can find no reason to not attend but as the cake choice is yet undecided I am also undecided.

Maybe if Wheels could obtain a cake menu for each of those games then we could start to make firm commitments, I'm naturally reluctant to attend a game where, for instance, a date cake would be given top billing for I detest dates, or prunes, a date and prune cake would have me running for the exits, mind its close enough to pop home for some cake of my own and be back before the full back has finished lining the kicking tee up.

I might be so bold as to suggest a Victoria Jam Sponge with icing sugar dusting be kept on standby at each game, just in case.

No cream please, it plays havoc with my ulcer.
