McDermott has said that the club will be taking this very seriously, that Zak's future will be determined by the outcome and that it was the club who informed the police when they saw the cctv images in the press'"
After McDermotts comments to the press today, I don't think they should play him. McDermott has made a massive error today, and shown he is not at the standard of dealing with these sort of issues. You don't hang your players out to dry like that, not when and offence has now been cleared up. Hardaker is a pretty popular member with his team mates, and those comments today could cause a lot of disruption.
Should have been kept in house until they had made a decision, no need to tell the world at this point. And the fact he lied about ringing the police straight away, forgetting to mention they already knew about the issue.

“As soon as we were made aware of the pictures that were on the Yorkshire Evening Post website, we actually rang the police themselves. We were keen to make sure that he helped the police in everything they needed to do. He did that and now we conduct our own investigation.
“We made that phone call straight away and then phoned Zak.”
He says they rang the police straight away WHEN they saw the photos in YEP.
Before that if they knew then I'm guessing both players probably denied any knowledge or involvement or even being in that building. So until the pictures showed up as evidence it was merely a case of their word against the students word.
As for what McDermott's said on the whole I have no problem with it. I think Hardaker has worn out his protection from management card and and McDermott whilst he's Hardaker coach, also has a duty to the club to tell his and the club's side of events and standpoint instead of just looking stubborn and straight batting all questions on the subject.
Hardaker may be a popular player in the group and if any of his mates are disappointed with McDermott's comments then they need to give their heads a shake......they should save their disappointment for their two teammates. Likewise if Hardaker is feeling any disappointment in what McDermott said then he's a fool. He's not hung him out to dry, he just told it how it is and I can't see anything he's said that Hardaker or any others could be upset about.

Seriously? you honestly believe that the players told a lie when it was brought up?
As for your comments on McDermott, not really surprising. You really don't think that a better situation would have been for him to keep his gob shut on the subject and deal with the disciplinary before mouthing off to the nation? Having concluded a disciplinary and if decided action needed taking, fair enough, and you handle it with the knowledge of the team, but not before.

| Really do not have any idea as to why if he doesn't play tomorrow hardaker was named in the 19, wouldn't make any sense. They've had enough time to find out what happened before naming the squad.
I'm really disappointed as to how they're dealing with the issue at hand, taking way too long for my liking.

Yes, why would they admit it? Especially with Hardaker's recent past? Doubt they even considered the possibility of any CCTV footage coming back to haunt them. Given that they were both involved in his incident I don't think you can't place a halo over their heads and portray them as guys who would never lie.

McDermott said that Hethrington only returned from Australia last night/this morning so I imagine they've had to wait for him before concluding anything.
I think listening to McDermott's comments on Hardaker that actually he will play. Also when asked about Golding he said "he'll play again this year even if he doesn't this week", that kind of "he'll get another shot at some point" line makes me think it'll be Hardaker. Given that Sinfield is out then I don't think he'll want two youngsters in Sutcliffe and Golding in the pivots.

| Well as I put the post up long before the club came out with anything, I can tell you that the club knew everything to the exact situation, a few weeks back, fully co-operated by the players. Not only that, but the coaches also spoke to the younger players about it, to ensure they understood the consequences. They wasn't the only players there by the way.
If you seriously believe it was a good thing for a coach to come out with such muck in public the day before a big game, then fair does, that's your prerogative. My view and ones with a less biased to the coach view, would see that if you are currently going through a disciplinary you don't make public such things before it is concluded.

So you can't come up with a line or comment from McDermott then that hung him out to dry?
And you really can't talk about bias when the situation involves Hardaker. You clearly post information in a manner which suggests you're very close to someone who knows Hardaker and tells you it. You criticised the club for fining him for the England thing, criticised them for not rushing out a statement straight away protecting him with the 2nd gay slur incident, criticising them for telling their stance on the matter this time. Told us how many offers he's had from Australia, told us he signed a 5 year deal with the role of captain post Sinfield on offer, told us how annoyed he was when Bailey didn't get punished the same way as he was. Etc, etc. etc.
You thinking that McDermott simply saying Hardaker has done wrong, needs to learn, let himself down, club is taking this seriously is "MUCK" is laughable and really shows how sensitive you are towards any criticism of him.
GH "Zak we've been told by a student that you and Elliot assaulted him the other night, is this true?"
ZAK "Yes boss, we were out until 3am just a few days before the season started and this annoying little student starts giving us grief so Elliot grabbed his arms whilst I pounded away on his face........btw am I still captain when Kev retires???"
Yeah I'm sure he did that instead of deny it.

| I don't know whether it is just Gotcha's portrayal of him, but every time he seems to speak of hardaker he looks worse and worse.
If it is an accurate representation of him, Hardaker needs to start taking responsibility for his own actions and stop expecting people to cover for him.

Quote ="Gotcha"In another twist, and maybe Minchella's dad can help with this, as he doesn't seem to be posting, although maybe understandable. I am led to believe that the club were aware of this incident three weeks ago, when the person "allegedly" assaulted, reported it to the club. The police at that time were still deciding if it was worth pursuing.
The club, as they have done many times in the past, especially with the likes of Bailey and Delaney, decided it best just to let it lie, unless something came up. When it came up last week they took the action they did.
It is an hypocritical way to work if true, but no doubt repeated by all clubs I would guess.
Also seems strange why the police, would release photos to the media, when the person "allegedly" assaulted told them from day one about the Rhinos players.
=#FF0000Of course the above is actually assuming it is them after all this. Maybe they say it isn't them.'"
So which is it from your two man-in-know tales???
Full co-operation from the two guys or denial that it was even them?

I totally agree he needs to take responsibility. I have even said on this thread, that IMO there should be a parting. However, I don't agree in talking in the public by the coach, without confirming his investigation is over. That is unprofessional and out of line.

| What the club say to the press, and say to each other behind closed doors are often completely different. How do we know the club didn't make the players aware of what they were going to tell the press? It doesn't really show the players in a worse light than they already appear to be, and it makes the club look like the angelic public servants as they would like everyone to believe they are.

McDermott usually seems to say whatever's going on in his head at the given moment at press conferences. There doesn't seem to be any strategy to it. Not just in this instance...it's pretty consistent. GH is the opposite, will be interesting what he says when back from his holiday/scouting trip.

I'm baffled as to what McDermott has said that is so rock-the-boat controversial. It's all just a bunch of generic cliches in the circumstances
"We're disappointed"
"He's disappointed"
"We're taking this matter seriously"
"He's made an error".....etc.
Yet he's getting criticised for not keeping these generic comments "in house" by a poster who has apparently been told juicy "in house" details of what's gone on (I assume in confidence) who has then gone and pasted them on the Internet for thousands of people to see and pass on......staggering.

| McDermott's said nothing that wouldn't be apparent to anyone with any access to the media reporting of the story so far.
He's certainly not prejudiced the outcome of any disciplinary hearing.
Maybe he should have just dead-batted the question, but then there plenty on here that would have been criticising him for not keeping fans up to speed with what was happening.

| IMO McDermott answered the questions put to him honestly and did not "hang Hardaker out to dry" at all. What he did make clear was that just because Hardaker has escaped police prosecution this in no way diminishes the seriousness of the offence in the Club's view and that the club investigation may lead to disciplinary action by the club and that this investigation will be led by GH.
Now the club will want to take into consideration Hardakers's previous record before deciding what action they will take on his latest fall from grace but the coach had every right to make clear that the Club take this matter very seriously. A lot will depend on what Hardaker told the Club (denial or admission of guilt) and his attitude since will determine if he gets selected to play again.
