| Quote: El Diablo "This I agree with.
That night displayed the difference there was between being the best player in SL in 2004 (whoever it was) and being the best player in the world. Lockyer's first half was one of the best displays I've ever seen live and in person. Pity the 2nd half petered out once Australia took their foot off the gas really.'"
Or, maybe the best player in SL in 2004 wasn't selected in the squad./
Or, maybe the best player in SL languished on the bench whilst the international coach selected his club stand off, undeservedly.

I thought McGuire deserved selection for GB that autumn, but do you really believe he would have made any material difference to what happened at Elland Road that night?

Farrell and Sculthorpe were superior players.

He still played plenty of minutes (not that anyone would have noticed) and made not a jot of difference.

| Quote: A-Fire-Inside "It's not just MOS where Leeds players have missed out - it's awards full stop.
From memory I don't think a Leeds player or coach has picked up any award in any season since first winning Super League in 2004 - which is pretty remarkable!
How Tony Smith didn't win coach of the year in '04 is simply unbelievable for instance.
As for MOS, Sir Kev was closest in '05 I'd suggest - unlucky but Lyon was a worthy winner. Without him, Kevin would have walked it.'"
Don't think they will be too bothered about not winning individual awards, when you look at the trophys they have won as a team.
Its a bit of a joke of late MOS.
Love him or hate him, Sam tomkins should have won it last year, instead rangi Chase won the award, and he didn't even play after Easter!! A joke to be honest

| Oh the irony. After never once mentioning Sir Kev as a possible MOS in the last ten years, suddenly Eddie and Stevo are wondering why he's never been mentioned as a possible winner. I know they don t decide it but I m sure they influence the people who decide on the award. take Rangi Chase last year (or James Roby
any year). They were continually nominating him.

| Indeed, as my ramblings may have mentioned at some point - 9 years of captaincy, now leading his team to its 7th grand final - how Sinny has never won MoS (or even been nominated) is shocking

| Brian Mac came up with a good one last night in the post match interview.May be the squad can be the first recipients of the "balls of steel" award.

| It would be an insult to award Sir Kev with an award made only of 'steel'
He, and the rest of the team, much prefer collecting gold & silver trophies & rings
Conversely, Tomkins may 'Man of Steel' award. A great individual in a team that wins nothing!

| I don't know if this has been mentioned before but surely these kinds of awards should be done after the season has finished.
The man of steel should be determined on how well the players cope with the playoff format as well as the regular season.
Think Leeds would have a lot more nominations too if this was the case.

Not really but that's not the point. Nobody would have made any difference from the pool of players available for selection but picking the best players at least increases your chances.
Besides I knew the comment would draw a little nibble from William.

| Tomkins - Man Of Steel
Jamie Peacock - Mike Gregory Award
Mick Potter - Coach of the year
Wigan - Team of the Year (except when it counts )
Young Player of the Year - Zak Hardaker
Top Try Scorer - Josh Charley (31)
Top Tackler - Danny Washbrook (991)
Top Meter Maker - James Roby (3971m
Lifetime achievements award - Danny Orr, Ryan Hudson, Ben Jeffries.
No awards for any Warrington players is a surprise. You can't argue with Tomkins winning MOS, though I would have gone for Westwood. Team of the year is a joke

| Awarding Wigan team of the year seems a little rash. Won hubcap, yes. But Wire were not far behind, won the cup and reached the GF. But meh, the only meaningful team of the year award is the one given out on Saturday night at Old Trafford. The winner (whoever it is) will have two trophies, Wigan one trophy, and that of dubious virtue...

| Not too sure about those Lifetime Achievement Awards. Is being an average player throughout your career worthy of a lifetime achievement award simply because they're retiring this year?

| Think of how embarrassing winning MOS would be to Sir Kev. I can't recall a single instance where he's admitted to having played remotely well. I honestly think lifting the team award would mean more to him, albeit a poor second to lifting another trophy at OT.
