| I would say that for most of Leeds golden era Wigan have not been a contender. Is only in recent seasons where they have been capable of winning the big one.
In 2010 we lost in the semi to them
2011 they lost in the semi to saints
2012 we won in the semi vs them
2013 we lost in the semi vs them
Less vs Wigan in the semi has been a pretty common occurrence, and since 2003 the winner has always gone on to win the gf.

| I think McDermott has to go, yes we have won a few pots.
But after 4 seasons in charge we have finished 5,5,3 and now a ridiculous 6th. No where near good enough.
We have a great team that will win big games whoever is in charge but we need fresh blood to take us to a new era once peacock, Sinfield et al go

Yep! Winning a "few pots" is simply not good enough

| Completely agree 2 Super League titles, a World Club Challenge and a Challenge Cup is simply not good enough in 4 years!!!

Don't think anyone will complain about trophies. It's the general quality of rugby and lack of development of players that I think creates criticism of Mcdermott.
He really is an enigma.

| Quote: William Eve "Leeds have never beaten Wigan in a final of any sort.
Even when they did meet Wigan in a final during their most Glorious Golden Era, they still lost.
No amount of silverware won during the most lamentable era of SL mediocrity can compensate for that glaring omission.'"
Yep and I bet the whole squad's gutted. In the last 11 years they've won all those GFs, WCCs, LLS and finally a CC but haven't beaten Wigan in a final.
They also haven't beaten Salford, Hull, Catalans, Batley or East Leeds.

History tells us he might not get another chance to win one, as his credentials in the league are poor. The new structure will not allow us to compete for the trophy if he repeats his league form thus far in his career.

| If only the top 4 went into the play offs this season then Leeds wouldn't have finished the season as they have. They've finished the season as they have because they knew the final games were meaningless and they are saving everything for the play offs.
It's pretty ridiculous the amount of whining over a meaningless finishing position in the league. We've won the first trophy of the season, one that had eluded us for a ridiculous amount of times given the strength of the teams we've had and the amount of finals we reached. We now see how he do in the play offs. But league position? You guys are morons for whining about it.

Had they have beaten Saints and Wigan and still being the same, I would have agreed with you. As it is it is absolute rubbish to say they would have done if needed. Seriously saying they didn't put it all in for those two games? Our position is where our league form deserves. The coach has finished once in the top four in his coaching career. There is a serious doubt he can manage a league campaign of 27 rounds successfully. One off matches yes, but to get to those you need to finish top four next season, and that is where the concerns lie.

| After the most successful decade in the clubs history they can't be blamed for playing the system. Lets face it, the only important games in a season are the CC, play offs and GF. I take my children to the a few games during the season and all the play offs etc. They are young teenagers but have seen Leeds win virtually as much silverware as i have and I have been a supporter for over 30 years.
Next season may be a shake up in the format and we may see a more competitive season, time will tell and I'm sure the RFL will move the goalposts after season 1 and anger some fans/coasches. At least they are trying to improve our sport for the better, sometimes misguided with some of the direction but at least they are striving for improvement.
I for one will support Leeds through thick and thin and after many years of thin as a fan I'm thoroughly enjoying silverware being brought back to Headingly

You are right. I'd much rather he could deliver a meaningless top 4 finish consistently than win trophies and titles.
Gotcha, you are a complete plank with no grasp of sport at all.

| In the 60s early 70s we finished in first place 5 times and only won the championship final once when we were clearly the best team. The history books show the the champions of those years.I would prefer to have had a couple more Champion final wins in place of all those LLs trophies

"The Golden Generation finally has its Golden Fleece! They have Wembley Cup Final winners medals to add to their collection."

| Had we been miles of the pace of the top teams all year and spent most of the year floating around 6th then could understand more of the disappointment.
But we've been right at the top most of the year and it was down to the CC that's seen us drop down.....an acceptable reason IMO.
The fixation and focus on the CC for this group of players is now over, not saying they won't want to win it again next year but they won't be as hell bent (sorry if that word offends anyone) on getting it. This will be make a big difference alone next year IMO.
In the weeks before the CC Final I heard 3/4 players and McDermott himself all repeat the same thing, that the targets this year were the CC and LLS......not one of them ever mentioned the GF or playoffs in anyway.

I'm thinking he may be referring to Bradford and London. I could be wrong.

The problem for Leeds next season is they have to finish in the Top 4, otherwise it's season over! They'll no longer be able to get away with tossing it off throughout the regular season as has become the norm under McDermott.
Given that McDermott's coaching record in SL is 7th, 9th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 5th, 5th, 3rd and probably 6th... it's not unreasonable to be questioning his credentials for the job in light of the new structure.
