I'm not sure. If anything the problems with the squad over the last couple of seasons have highlighted how important it is to save quota spots for the very best available players that we're likely to be able to bring to SL.

If someone like Jai Field takes the last quota spot (presumably freed-up by Martin's passport changes?), it effectively rules us out from bringing in a player of Merrin's stature from the NRL to fill the second marquee slot - unless we go for an Englishman or non-Federation player.

I know nothing about Field, but without disrespecting him he doesn't sound worthy of marquee money.

Yes we need to get the marquee signing right. I'd love a GB marquee personally..more likely to see out their contract. Use last quota spot to add depth to the backs

Field would not be a ‘Marquee’ signing, I think people need to remember that there isn’t ‘marquee money,, its just an exemption from the cap, my only issue would be using a quota spot n a utility player, having said that someone like Field could work really well in SL

Think we need to calm down about the marquee signings, it does create at buzz around the club if they bring in someone of the calibre of Merrin or Hurrell but look what's happened with Merrin comes over on marquee money and is gone after one season why rush if there's nobody to bring over whose worth marquee money the club won't be able to make a marquee signing, if we signed Field on a 1 or 2 year deal and doesn't count loads on the cap i think it would be good thinking by us we have have competition/ cover for our backline and then if someone comes available at end of up coming season who is worth marquee money and is willing to stand by the club and play for us then we should go all out for them, but like others have said I'd try and go for a top British talent and make them marquee players like Thompson, Clark, Bateman, T.Burgess etc they'd be more than likely stick to there contract and wouldn't take up a quota spot

I seem to remember Field has a British/Irish passport? Does that make any difference?

I’m not 100% on the rules but that would make him a British citizen so I would have thought that makes him exempt from the quota?

The only player in SL who justifies Marquee value is SBW. Field would be a good signing for us.,....

Time is against us here for any major signing. Clubs wont want to let their star men go the closer it gets to season start. We need to get a shift on

I don't think we'll be signing anyone major to be honest, neither would I want to unless they were the right signing.

I think the utility back needs to be able to play winger, full back and possibly centre rather than full back, centre and half back.

The NRL Transfer merry go round has hardly got warm yet still plenty of time to get a quality forward in.

Jai Field is the outside back though if he hasn’t dual citizenship then he would have had to have played a certain amount of NRL games or pay him in excess of £100k to get a visa.Anyone expecting a big marquee signing at this stage of the year needs a reality check

Wouldn’t Jai Field be a waste of money and a quota spot? Isn’t he a full back or half back? If so what’s the point in spending big money and taking up a quota spot on a bloke that will be 2nd choice full back and back up half back when we already have Myler, McLelland and Sutcliffe to provide cover there

Surely your quota players have to be 1st choice 17 every week, not back up utility cover

It always depends on how ambitious you are.......... does Sutcliffe really provide quality cover in the half's? Unfortunately he is one of those players who is average in most positions but master of none! If someone can provide excitement and real speed on the edges and is young with a point to prove then maybe its a risk worth taking. Pace is essential around the edges and the Rhinos are lacking for sure! Give him a short term contract with a possible long term extension if he makes the grade!

If he was English/non-quota fair enough....but where would he play for us.

Walker is starting FB and Gale/Lui are starting halves with Myler and McLelland as 2nd choice there. That’s both of Field’s normal positions taken care of. As I say your quota players have to be 1st choice starters, guaranteed picks in the 1st choice 17 every week.

Where has Field even been mentioned? A 1/6/7 utility let go after a handfull of games taking up a quota spot, cant see it.

Agar has been wanting Field for a while now,worked with him at St George so must see something in him.
