I know and the other partner was awash with fit players and not trying to avoid relegation.

| Lolohea can play 1 or 6. At present you'd say the most likely is for him to start at 6 with Walker at fullback. However, I have some doubts about a Myler-Lolohea combination being able to control games (no doubt they will show flashes of brilliance but not sure they have much game management between them).
Given the fact that McClelland will be on wages far higher than anyone with his complete lack of experience in first grade, the club clearly has huge wraps on him and expect him to force his way into the team sooner rather than later. I've no doubt he might start on DR, but I personally wouldn't be surprised if he ends the season as our starting 6. Mind you, he could be another Richard Gunn as well.

I wouldn’t mind a Lolohea/McClelland 6 and 7 in another year or so. Myler has done well since joining us but he’s a player I’ve never got enthusiastic about personally. He has a nice passing game but doesn’t offer enough overall for mine. We need to be sticking players in their preferred positions and letting them develop. We’ve f’d around with lots of second rowers at prop, Sutcliffe at ?, Moon at 6. I never thought Burrow was a hooker in a million years and it frustrated me we didn’t play him at 7 all the time (he should have played far bigger minutes for Leeds in his career latterly). Even now, is our interest in Merrin or Taupau as big back rowers or as cart horses? For me a balanced team is a successful one and for too long we’ve been winging it. A balanced unit with different and complementary threats will usually beat a side of talented individuals IMO. We haven’t been near good enough in the pack for years, the links haven’t been working and the good back line we’ve had therefore hasn’t had much chance to shine.

| Interesting how Myler was brought in to the side as some sort of saviour and that Lilley was deemed not good enough.
What is the main difference between the two when it comes to the following:
passing in broken play.
passing from dummy half.
short kicking game
long kicking game
taking the line on
putting players in to space
tackling/defending
and finally pace.
Fwiw I see little difference in the two but then again I`m no expert.

| I never understood signing Myler, felt like a desperation/ need some one type of signing.
We have needed an organising HB since Sinfield left, still don't have that three years later

| Myler seemed to be going well at the start of the year but agree with those that suggest he just doesn't offer quite enough for me. Particularly in big games. As early as the Cas game at Elland Road he dropped his chips in front of the posts when we were on the hunt to get back level. Obviously, there were far bigger issues than Myler last year but always strikes me as a player that scores a hat-trick when you when 52-16 but rarely comes up with a match winning play.

| To pick Myler out after the complete turd show we served up last year is bizzarre start with an ageing weak pack a non existent 6 and a Coach with no idea before even getting to Myler.

| I'm not saying Myler is a bad player or that he's to blame for last season.
I am saying he's the wrong type of HB we needed

not sure i would agree with that, as above looked good early season and was getting praise from others, i remember John wells saying is Myler finally at the right club at the right time, then the wheels fell off.
Not having an half back partner was /is the problem, Sutcliffe is useless, moon wanted to go home from about March and disappeared rest of season, and no other options only Lilley who was shipped out to Bradford. Plus the worst softest leeds Pack since about 1987
Myler sent the last 3 years of his career trying to guide awful sides around the park, still reserve judgement on Myler with an attack minded coach and better side around him.

| Yet again, I didn't say Furner or new set up won't improve him.
What I've said is *When* we signed him we needed an organiser more than we needed what Myler was offering at the time.

| When we signed myler we actually needed two HB's as moon was never up to the job.
Only signing one put myler is the position of trying to do his job, carry moon and play behind an aging pack.
I agree that he wasn't all we needed when he came.
I think he did a decent job overall though and with a proper Hb to play with and a bit more dominance from the pack and he will show up to be a decent player.

That’s fine but I was watching him closely for England at the weekend; nice passing game, very committed in defence given his size limitations, big effort - but kicking game total pants and not the running game to cause concern in good opposition.
He’s solid enough. Then again I always thought he was overrated at Warrington. The side does have worse problems to deal with - my original point was just that I wouldn’t mind someone else nudging past him to partner Lolohea (if we can get him match fit..).

I agree.
We need a decent kicking game to emerge from somewhere.
I'm also hoping that across myler, lolohea and mcClelleand we will have some competition in the halves and also some diversity.

| Yes agreed mate. McLelland has a lot of development in him, but I like the video clips I’ve seen. He has some skills and a bit of whack in defence too. It won’t do Myler any harm to be one of three rather than one of one in any case.

I think he’s a different player to what he was at Warrington. He’s now the player he should have been when Briers retired.
I spent most of last season thinking that he’s too good for us tbh. He had a huge task on his hands last year and I’d imagine had many thoughts of “why have I come here?”. No structure, woeful pack, woeful half back partner etc. I’d love to have seen a McGuire / Myler partnership, it’d have been very dangerous.

| I'm hoping that in McClelland we have someone with a decent kicking game. If he's been playing 10 in Union he should be able to kick a ball well enough.
I've thought for a while watching both games that any reasonable Union 10 would kick 40-20s all day long

TBH I think the lad has a very solid all-round game. Not sure he is Nikorima-quick, but he can defend hard and I like that in a half. Quite aggressive.

| Re Myler, hopefully Furner will have the sort of influence on him that he did on Adam Reynolds at Souths. Reynolds was always a super kicker, but played like a robot in attack and had no running game at all. Last year he flourished as part of a completely revamped attack, and started to look like a proper halfback.
In terms of kicking, isn't a lot down to practice and getting proper training? Myler may never have a massive boot on him, but with proper instruction and the sort of extra hours the best put in, surely he can get up to a decent standard?
