| Quote ="Marty Grrrrrrrrrr!"This was inevitable with a loss on Friday.
My issue is I simply dont trust the people making the decision on a replacement to get this decision right which tells me the issue isnt just the Head Coach position. This decision is a massive one for the future of the club. Massive.
Having watched the press conferences GH seems to be hinting at JJB quite a lot. I really hope Im reading too much into that.
You look at the coaching odds and there arent many there that fill me with excitement at all.
What a hole we are in. Cant believe it.
There is talent in that squad but no leadership, no discipline and no heart but it is a far better team than it has shown, far better. The head coach deserved criticism, the players deserve more and the CEO has to take his share too.
Three or 4 years ago the club appointed Sinfield, Furner and Agar to key roles and all 3 have now left the club.
Fair play to Agar for holding his hands up and admitting what he was doing wasnt good enough for Leeds RL maybe others should do the same and maybe some players should also accept their part in this. Half of them never seem to speak.
Its a sad day for the club but also an opportunity to review and improve. Lets hope we get this appointment right but as I say I dont trust the people making that call anymore.'"
100% agree listened to short interview with JJB on 5live this morning and he was indicating interested in job full time. All it will take is a slight upturn in results finish say 5th and nothing will change other than Agar might return in the DOR role. I really do believe that Hetherington is out of touch these days and we clearly need a new coach backed by his own team with a modern approach.JJB is a good guy but no coaching pedigree he was talking about hard work and pulling together which iwas his DNA as a player but tactical acumen and the abikity to mould a team developing every player is what we need from a coach. Blood sweat and tears should be a given for anybody who pulls on a Leeds shirt. So come on Gary don"t take the easy option take your time and make the right decision!

Or you could even try for Craig Bellamy who's currently weighing up whether this year will be his last one with them. It's be an enormous coup to get him but it who knows? Probably too expensive though.'"
Bellamy - there's thought - no way he would toe the line to GH. Sadly it will never happen if it did it would be akin to when Graham Murray arrived - transformational

| The only thing that will get us back on course is a quality coach.
Not a coach that is well liked or a coach the fans like because he used to play for us. Both are irrelevant, things like "knowing the club" etc are excuses you use to describe a coach that is underqualified. I actively want the coach to have no connection to our club and instead be hired due to his proven quality in coaching. Our club seems to have a really hard time distinguishing between former good players and good coaches. They are not the same.

We need someone who has coached or assisted at the top level in the modern game.'"
I would imagine Shaun Edwards would be successful in whatever he does. His career to date shows that.
Ironically, Tony Smith and Brian McDerrmott have both coached at the top level for a number of years and both won silverware. However, reading the posts above, both would not be good enough for Leeds!???

If you look at the very successful clubs they have a culture that defines them - the coach has to fit into that culture. Saints want to play a certain way and the coach must embrace that. Maguire worked at Wigan he would have never worked at Saints. A top coach should be able to adapt his style to his surroundings if he really wants to get the best out of the opportunity

| We need a clean break from coaches who have been at the club already in some capacity, all the more so if they are inexperienced or have had limited evidence of past success. Powell and Smith are the only 'options' that might prove to be astute exceptions, but the timing is clearly wrong for both of them - Powell is having limited impact at Wire and we'd probably need to wait to the end of the season for Smith.
McGuire, Ward and JJB would all constitute massive risks not unlike Sinfield coming after McDermott. It doesn't have to be an NRL assistant (certainly not any old assistant who happens to be available) but for me this line of recruitment would do most to signal that lessons of the past are finally being learned. Agar supposedly has good NRL contacts - let's hope he is making up for lost time in putting them to good use!

Seriously, are people really suggesting we should appoint someone who has no practical Rugby League experience for over two decades?? The game has changed massively since he was last involved and so have coaching methods. Being a successful ex Rugby League player in union is hardly a massive achievement given how backward that sport was when he first went there, and to some degree still is from a skills and fitness perspective.
Coming in at Leeds with Walker, JJB and Long as his brains trust - at least in the short term - would be a recipe for disaster.

| Agree with the posts from Marty and Loiner at Large.
I listened to the press conference and for mine it was riddled with waffle.
GH kept talking about how strong our staff and squad is and how Leeds always look long term.
However,
Agar has resigned as Head Coach and is staying with us but no idea in what role.
GH said we are starting an extensive search for a new head coach and how demanding a role it is and you need special qualities and we are not in a rush and we are starting with a blank piece of paper. If true, we have done zero planning to replace Agar.
I hope Peter Smith is wrong about his top 5, who all have some former/current connection.
I suspect GH is hoping we have some upturn under JJB and he gets the gig full time. Nobody doubts his passion for the club but as defence coach, he has delivered a fairly soft looking defence.
I’m solidly in grumpy old man territory so players may respond to him differently but I’ve heard enough parables and his“ forged in the fierce fire of the crucible” shtick to last a lifetime just from his TV work.
I keep expecting an advert to run along the bottom of
My TV saying “donate now to the Bramley Church of Our Saviour, the Rev Jones-Buchanan and help save a dirty Leeds sinner” where a picture of a gap toothed Ryan Bailey appears or a picture of a guy who looks like OCD Stephen’s profile picture.
It may send me over the edge into Satan’s arms and I’ll go down Wheldon Road to listen to Radford.
May the Lord have mercy on my soul.

I desperately want the team to put together a string of wins and provide some decent entertainment, but if that gave GH an excuse to make JJB head coach!!!!! I fear I'd be joining Sir Greg in the league of the dammned. Surely GH knows he has to do better, far better. If not he may as well change Rhinos to Old Boys.

It’s a fairly thin CV but thought he did really well in that short time at Fev and with us. He looks like a guy who’s hungry for success but still very young and inexperienced. I’d prefer him to most of the others mentioned.
I wonder if by the end of the RU season the magic of watching 3 minute scrums, line outs and rolling mauls will have worn off and Sir Kevin will be fancying a return ?

I keep hearing this demand for Sinfield to return to the club.
But what has he done to show his coaching credentials let alone his recruitment and retention prowess ?
Most of what we are in now is down to Sinfield.
Move on from any connection with the club and get us moved into the real world.

I’m not demanding it. I think a new, fresh approach is the better way to go. Murray, Smith, McLennan and Brian McD as asst had never been at Leeds before. I think only looking at “Leeds” men narrows your choice far too much.
Just wondering if it could happen. When he first came back he said he did not want to coach but maybe he would now he’s found out how dull admin /office work can be. I could have told him that

| I was thinking about what GH said, and I think its OK actually. He has to give JJB public support even if he intends to get a coach from outside. Otherwise JJB couldn't function and the players would have carte blanche to take the mick until a permanent appointment is made.

Kev could be available but we cant keep going back to him everytime we are in schtuck. Its time for fresh ideas and faces.
Carr is inexperienced for the Leeds job but is better than most on the list of potential candidates which looks very low calibre really.
But i suspect the club are still weighing up options and availabilities.
