| We (and I'm sure we're not unique) seem to have a few fans who seem unable to accept success. Many of the most voiciferous posters from before 2004 seemed to transfer to other teams, or even our team of the more distant past, as we gained more and more success. It's as if they feel unworthy or something. I'd be interested in a psycholgist or psychiatrists view on that phonemenon.

| Quote ="Keith Swiftcorn"I'm aware of the difference between commodities and services. I regard the rhinos brand as a packaged commodity because it's more than just providing the service of 80 minutes of sporting viewing. It's also about selling rhinos branded season tickets, rhinos branded shirts and other gear, rhinos branded memberships, etc. You may describe buying into that package as being part of a rhinos community if you like but it's not something which appeals to me on any level. I'd rather pick and choose which 80 minutes of whichever game of rugby league happens to be my preference based on what I think and hope that game might offer in terms of viewing quality. Quite often this will involve games where the rhinos are not involved. I share no loyalty to any consumer brands. If something turns up which I deem better, I'll ditch or switch. I'll always be a Loiner however.'"
I do not think you do know the difference between commodities and services. Commodities/goods are sold in the shop at Headingley but this is a very small part of what the Club offers and is not mandatory for those attending the matches. 1000's of people attend the games to watch live sport and do not buy any commodities. Because you choose to "regard" this entertainment service as a commodity to suit your argument does not make it a correct description.
Like I said live sport is unpredictable and picking and choosing matches is fine but offers no guarantee of the actual viewing quality for the reasons I previously stated particularly if you allow any bias or prejudice to effect your choice.
You state that you "share no loyalty to any consumer brand" yet earlier professed to a preference for "Heinz Salad Cream"
You say you will "always be a Loiner however" Is that because you were born within the sound of Briggate's church bells? or have you bought into one of the alternative commodities?

| Quote ="G1"I guessed as much, you have transferred your allegiencies to Dewsbury because it suits you socially. It's no greater calling to serve a community club as you alluded to earlier. If you had moved to Warrington you'd now be following "The Wolves" with your new mates.
I'm not dissing ya, just don't try and paint it as anything else and make a point of it.
One questoin mind, will you be "Dewsbury Till You Die" or will that change if you fall out with your mates and start playing for Batley Boys?'"
Quite the opposite actually old bean. I have switched my allegiance to Dewsbury based on the fact I would like to marry and have children soon. I would prefer that in their rugby related activities my kids grew up in a nurturing and supportive environment rather than one based entirely on money and success.

So if all current 'Rhinos' fans took your view and stopped spending money in the club, we became bottom of the league stragglers with vast debt and were totally unsuccessful, you'd be pleased with that? It's as if you are shocked at the way the club is ran in an industry where most successful teams follow the same model. I really don't see how you could be less interested in the club due to it becoming successful on and off the pitch, yet underneath the facade of the Rhinos branding it is the same team you have always supported, it's just moved with the times. It reminds me of my late grandmother who was terrified of new technology, afraid of change.

And do you honestly believe that given the chance Dewsbury wouldn't wish for similar money and success.
A glance at their website should give you a clue. The only tab on their top menu in capitals is the very first...'ONLINE SHOP'
Personally, and having seen and been involved in some of the brilliant work that the Rhinos Community team and their many volunteers put in, I find you post pretty insulting.

| Isn't he just saying that a club like Dewsbury - by its very nature - will be more community focused than a 'big' club like Leeds? I'd be stunned if it weren't the case.

| Dewsbury is more community based not by nature but by circumstance. If they were to get up into Super League and start competing at the top end of the table they would be run just exactly like Leeds are. At which point I presume his allegiance would have to change again, as he would no longer feel this 'ownership' of 'his' club, which by the way suggests the problem lay within the thinking of the individual. But I guess the 'Leeds became too much of a business, not enough of a community' line suits easier.
If someone wants to support another team then that's fine but to try and place some of the reasoning on the former club becoming too big, too business like, too successful is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

| Seeing through the agenda Keith makes some valid points. however sport is never a commodity which is defined as something that can be offered by many suppliers but where quality is considered standard, such as electricity. Sport isn't like this its emotional and is about the event and the journey as well as the result or performance. would I enjoy a technically perfect demolition of a top class team? Yes. would it keep me gripped the way the last 15 at Odsal did on Friday night would? Probably not. A huge part of yer attraction of sport is that unknown element. and that's why people across the world do it.

No, he isn't. He is saying that Leeds is
Quote entirely based on money and success'"
... and by implication that this it doesn't care about kids. His post is a gross caricaturisation of the club and denies the incredible hard work put in by it's dedicated community team and volunteers throughout the city. This extends to players and coaches attending junior club events, and training sessions for kids and community team coaches. Brian Mac visited every community club in his first few months as Leeds coach.
That Dewsbury is more dependent on, and therefore more closely tied to the community may be true, but it is the implication that Leeds don't work incredibly hard with kids and the community that galls.
In every respect, from branding and merchandising to sponsorship and playing success, Dewsbury has the same aspirations as any big club like Leeds. The only difference here is scale and achievement.
If Loinertillidie really cares about any of this he should forget about Leeds or Dewsbury and put his efforts into helping out with a real community team like many hundreds of volunteers do so selflessy in this city. The Yorkshire Junior League has 70 clubs he can choose from.

Course that was what you were thinking. If I marry and have kids what club would I want my kids supporting.
Guffaw etc.
FWIW, Stinkwort makes an excellent point. I've seen first hand some of the community work Leeds do. Because of the things that Dewsbury Till He Changes His Mind despises, money and resources, Leeds are able to and probably do more good community work than any other club in the region, including Dewsbury.

I agree. I'm also at a loss to understand the tremendous amount of effort some people put in to repeatedly criticising everything they can about the club, the players, the competition itself, the format, etc...etc...etc.. I could understand if we hadn't won anything for 20 years.
