Moa's red was correct IMHO - he made contact with the head of Rinaldi, yes it was a shoulder charge but contact with the head is against the rules. It was accidental but dangerous and a red was justified - it's the defenders duty to take due care.'"

Have to disagree, using Bailey v fasavalu as precedent, it was perfectly legal and IMO is one of the things that separates our great sport from kick and clap. However refs are not exactly known for consistency'" :2gkswp8a
Rule one of precendents - the facts and issues have to be substantially the same...[url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?834:2gkswp8aBailey/Fasavalu was not foul play because Fasavalu ducked into the tackle[/url:2gkswp8a
In any case where has this idea that Shoulder charges can't also be high tackles come from. It has no basis in the laws of the game which state that it is foul play if "when effecting or attempting to effect a tackle makes contact with the head or neck of an opponent intentionally, recklessly or carelessly".
In Bailey/Fasavalu there was no intentional, reckless or careless contact with the head. I don't accept that as being the same for Moa.
Quote Barrie's Glass Eye:2gkswp8aHowever quoted barrie's "It was Rinaldi's fault for being small" I agree, had Moa flattened a London Prop he would most likely have got up dusted himself off and nothing the more would have been said, nor should it imo'"

I disagree this is exactly why it was a reckless tackle. Moa could see how tall Rinaldi was and therefore should have adjusted his technique accordingly. He made no attempt whatsoever to bring his shoulder below Rinaldi's head height which to me is at best careless and more probably reckless. [EDIT: I also now note that even [url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?3339:2gkswp8aMr Moa partially agrees with me and entered a guilty plea on the basis of the tackle being careless but not reckless[/url
Also on this basis wouldn't any high tackle on Rob Burrow be fair game as anyone else would have been fine?!
