| Quote ="G1" Its' unfortunate but you can't keep all the juniors. Still, with raynor, Fox and Calderwood that is 3 wingers who have gone on to acheive full international honours since we let them go. '"
The emergence of Calderwood through the Academy is what probably caused Raynor to be released to Hull. Calderwood (younger) being seen as the better prospect. Hard to disagree with that assessment at the time as Calderwood scored for fun at the lower level and Raynor came late to the club. My problem with the decision to release was that they got the wrong fella altogether, it should have been the OOC that season Cummins who was even then stealing a living at Leeds.
I'm afraid recent Leeds history could repeat itself.

| as a hull fan, i would like us to sign broughton on a permanent basis if leeds are happy to let him go. Aprt from his obvious pace, and his strength, which i dont think has been mentioned yet, i ,ike his desire and his attitude.
He has that "leeds" style attitude that mathers had, the jumping around and celebrating mistakes and good play and that is something you dont see from him unless you see him live. He is always trying to encourage the team which i find weird from a week by week player!

It wasn't something that materialised during match days towards the latter end of his career but I'd guess he was a very, very positive influence around training and the dressing rooms.
A great example really and what hard work and dedication can achieve despite limited abilities.

All valid points and emphasises that while we all like to think we know better and we'd do different we are all hopelessly in the dark when it comes to the information needed to make the call..

If you think Yeaman's bad, just wait until Leeds eventually sign Ryan Atkins.
Whoever is outside him has my deepest sympathies.
Did he at any point pass to his winger (Hall) on Saturday? And that was in a dominant side with space to play...

| I am a big fan of Broughton. He impressed me during pre season in the friendlies expecially versus wakey on boxing day.
But at this present time we have Watkins, Gibson, Ben Jones Bishop and Smith who can play on the wing so keep him getting experience and he could build into a quality player for the future.

| looks a good prospect. We have a lot of emerging players like watkins BJB Mcshane that are strugling to gain a bench spot ATM. I really think we should give them a better chance especially when we seem to have a lot of players on bad form. But does Bluey have the bottle to drop our so called star players? And before anyone rants about burning them out to quickly I'm only meanimng give them a decent spell not permanent.

| I agree with G1 from the TV it definitely looked as if ball was stolen from Broughton's hand while he was being tackled by three players. Ref should've called for a ball steal and disallowed the try. Thought Broughton did look useful.

I disagree, thought it was a loose carry.

Nowhere, he's still in the reserves and managed to make the initial 19 man squad last week covering the International absentees.

Never really looked the part at Halifax, he may be one of those players that really stalls as they move from Junior (where they really stand out) to Senior where they struggle.

| Re the try - he dropped it whilst being attended to by three of Wakeys finest, unlike the rest of the Hull side he was trying a bit too hard!
First time I've seen him, but I was well impressed. Thought he was going to go 80 metres in the first half, we were lucky to stop him. Great attitude as well - if you don't want him, someone will!

I realise that you are well away from the action. So I will excuse you on this occasion. The fact is that Robinson was never a half back at Leeds. He signed directly from Hunslet Parkside to Wigan by Eric Hawley.

Siddal in Halifax that he signed from, wasn't it?

Are you on about Jason Robinson?
If you are then my apology, I thought you were on about Luke Robinson, who was also signed by Eric Howley.

| Les - point is, Leeds had a good look at Robinson but decided that as a halfback he wasn't as good as Stephens. It's one of those oft-cited examples of Leeds' 'failure' to spot talent. IIRC they also chose not to sign Derryck Fox and Kevin Ward as juniors. Plus Schofield, Hanley, blah blah. Never mind we got Dave Creasser. ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

| I'm fairly sure the way Robinson put it in his book Leeds hadn't made a choice - they wanted Robinson to play halfback as a trialist in an alliance game so they could assess him better.
The game clashed with an important Parkside game and Robinson felt the latter more important. Eric Hawley then seized the opportnity and approached Auntie Mo who took a punt on him immediately.
Not too dissimilar to how Eric Cantona came to Leeds not Sheff Wednesday - one club wanted a trial game the other was willing to sign without and took advantage of the delay.

I haven't read the book but that's how I recall the missing out on Robinson going down. IIRC David Ward was the Leeds coach who insisted on the 'A' team trial first but I could be mistaken on that.
